In the final episode of “The Ideal Duo,” the murder mystery involving the affluent Winbury family came to a close, hinting that further storytelling may not be necessary. Yet, this series turned out to be one of Netflix’s top hits in the latter half of 2024, implying that audiences might crave more content.
The approach could involve transforming the series into an anthology format, as rumors suggest Netflix intends to do so. They are reportedly working on a potential second season that would continue the Nantucket backdrop from “The Perfect Couple” but focus on a new wealthy family, portrayed by a fresh cast. This upcoming season is said to be based on another Elin Hilderbrand novel with a different storyline.
Netflix declined comment.
If all goes well, the upcoming second season of “The Perfect Couple” is expected to be inspired by Hilderbrand’s 2024 novel, “Swan Song,” which is the fourth installment in a series set on Nantucket. Joanna Calo, who co-runs “The Bear,” will adapt the book and take over as showrunner for this season (with Jenna Lamia serving as showrunner during season one).
Swan Song depicts the events that unfold when the enigmatic Richardson family purchases a $22 million mansion on Nantucket. The Richardsons host grand soirees, engage with locals amorously, possess two yachts and instill optimism in everyone they encounter. However, when their house is engulfed in flames and their most vital employee disappears, the island’s inhabitants are left distraught.
In September 2024, the series titled “The Ideal Pair” made its debut and garnered substantial viewership, placing second in viewer hours per minute (total watch time divided by running time) and fifth in total hours watched on Netflix’s global charts for the latter half of the year. Interestingly, Netflix categorized “The Ideal Pair” as a full season rather than a limited series, labeling it as such on their weekly top 10 lists and their semi-annual data release in late February.
Nicole Kidman, who played a key role as both an actress and a producer during the first season, will once more serve as a producer alongside her partner at Blossom Films, Per Saari. Additionally, Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Susanne Bier (the director of season one), and Hend Baghdady are also set to produce.
