The superhero genre remains incredibly popular, boasting multiple interconnected storylines. Besides the Marvel Cinematic Universe (accessible through a Disney+ subscription), there’s also Sony’s Spider-Man universe. This universe includes Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy, and fans have eagerly anticipated the meeting of his character with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man for years. I recently watched “The Last Dance” (streaming on Netflix), and I must admit that the way they hinted at and then dropped this story arc feels quite disappointing, almost like a punch to the face.
In the closing moments of “Venom: The Last Dance”, Eddie Brock found himself on Earth-616 due to Doctor Strange’s spell from “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. It appeared as though Spider-Man and Venom were destined for a long-awaited encounter, but this meeting never transpired. Instead, the crossover was left unfulfilled, and “Venom: The Last Dance” commenced with Brock being swiftly returned to his original universe: Earth-688.
Disney Plus + Hulu Bundle Offer: The popular bundle deal from last Black Friday is back this March, now available at only $2.99 per month for a combined ad-supported plan of Disney Plus and Hulu. Typically priced at $10.99 per month, this offer grants you a substantial 72% discount to enjoy numerous Spider-Man films and more. Although new and returning customers won’t be able to keep the reduced rate for as long as before, you can still benefit from the under-$3 bundle during the first four months of your subscription (during Black Friday, the discounted Disney Plus price lasted an entire year).

Despite fans’ repeated requests for a crossover and hints suggesting it might occur, Sony ultimately backed out of allowing Spider-Man and Venom to meet in a movie. To this day, Peter Parker hasn’t been featured in any of Sony’s universe, including films like Madame Web, Morbius, and Kraven The Hunter. With the conclusion of the Venom franchise in Venom: The Last Dance, it seems unlikely that Peter Parker and Eddie Brock will ever share the big screen together.
It wasn’t entirely unexpected, given the conspicuous lack of Holland’s character in that expansive cinematic world. However, the studio’s clever use of those credit scenes to bait us feels a bit underhanded. Leaving such a setup unresolved is hard to stomach, particularly when we witness seamless crossovers in other interconnected universes like Marvel’s MCU and the once-connected DCEU.

The characters Venom and Spider-Man have been inseparable in popular culture for a long time, and there were whispers and anticipation about their potential collaboration throughout the entirety of the “Venom” trilogy. However, despite hints and promises made within the franchise over the years, Tom Hardy confirmed that a meeting between these characters on the big screen would never happen. He stated:
frankly, I’m not certain about that as I can only speculate at this point. It seems to be beyond the scope of my knowledge, yet it’s intriguing enough to pique my curiosity.
It seems unlikely that fans will witness Spider-Man (Holland) and Venom (Hardy) sharing the screen together as their respective comic book characters, given the current state of things. Although the multiverse concept dominates the Marvel Cinematic Universe, legal complications may prevent Eddie Brock from joining the action. Regrettably, a crossover between these two characters is not expected in any of the 2025 film releases.
