Ayo Edebiri clarifies that her post regarding Elon Musk was not intended to provoke controversy, as it led to her receiving threatening messages.
The award-winning actress posted on her Instagram Story on Wednesday, saying, “Please don’t turn my casual posts into headlines. I’m simply trying to have some fun and be carefree.
Edebiri’s recent statement emerged just hours ago, following her posting on social media about receiving severe death threats and racial insults linked to the billionaire. Yesterday, The Bear actress reposted a false article from February 2024, which circulated on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that she was taking over Johnny Depp’s role in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Upon seeing this post, Musk commented on X, “Disney is disappointing.
Recalling one of the craziest death threats and racial insults I’ve ever received (it might not be number one, but it’s definitely in my top 3) for a fictional remake of a movie I wasn’t familiar with, all due to this person,” Edebiri posted on her Instagram Story Tuesday.
She laughed out loud, saying he’s not just a two-time salute from a fascist, but also a bit of a fool. In reference to Elon Musk, she was talking about his controversial hand gestures at an event before Donald Trump’s inauguration in January.
It was after her post began generating attention that Edebiri explained it was merely a fun and playful interaction she had with the Musk post.
Regarding the future of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, it’s currently uncertain as various concepts have been circulating lately, some featuring Margot Robbie and others potentially bringing back Johnny Depp. Last year, Jerry Bruckheimer hinted that the next film might be a reboot, implying a fresh cast could be involved.
The last “Pirates of the Caribbean” film shown in cinemas was “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which came out in 2017, and it featured Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, and Kaya Scodelario. It’s uncertain if Depp will reprise his famous role as Captain Jack Sparrow, given that he has largely stayed away from the public eye after his libel trial against Amber Heard in 2022.
