Ridley Scott’s ‘Dope Thief’ Scores 88% on Rotten Tomatoes: A Crime Series to Watch!

It can’t be argued that Ridley Scott possesses a wide array of skills. Beyond crafting some of the most iconic movies in cinema history – such as Alien, Blade Runner, and Gladiator – he has also achieved success as a producer under the Scott Free brand. He is returning to this role for the Apple TV+ crime series Dope Thief, which is set to debut on March 14, 2025, and is receiving critical acclaim even before its release.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but express my excitement for “Dope Thief,” a gripping crime drama co-created by Peter Craig, based on Dennis Tafoya’s 2009 novel. With an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%, it’s clear that this Apple TV+ production is set to deliver an outstanding viewing experience. Brian Tyree Henry, Wagner Moura, Kate Mulgrew, and Ving Rhames lead a stellar cast in this series. According to Alex Maidy from JoBlo’s Movie Network, Henry and Moura are nothing short of exceptional in their performances, and Martin Carr from CBR echoes this sentiment, praising Apple TV+’s latest limited series as another fantastic addition to their platform.

In the initial scenes, we find “Dope Thief” arriving prepared, introducing an Apple-originated narrative. This understated romantic drama by creator Peter Craig delves into intricate relationships, potentially setting up a series as compelling as “Severance”.

Titled “Dope Thief“, the story unfolds with Henry portraying Ray and Moura as Manny, two friends who, in a twist of events, disguise themselves as DEA agents to burglarize a house. However, they soon discover that their target is not just any ordinary residence but a significant narcotics operation.

Notably, the screenplay for “Dope Thief” is penned by Craig, who has previously gained acclaim with films like “The Batman“, “The Town“, and the “Hunger Games: Mockingjay” parts 1 and 2. Additionally, he played a role in shaping the narrative for “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Bad Boys for Life“. Given his track record of creating thought-provoking concepts, it’s no wonder that “Dope Thief” is garnering positive reactions.
