In this new development, actors known for their roles in the Underworld series and Mortal Kombat are teaming up for an unassuming action thriller titled Lioness. Directed by James Nunn, who’s famous for Scott Adkins action films like One Shot and One More Shot, this movie is shaping up to be a dream come true for fans of action movies. Filming is currently underway in the UK, with initial details now available.
Based on Deadline’s report, Capstone is set to produce an action film centered around a former black ops team. In this movie, they come together for one final mission: a daring heist aimed at saving their leader’s (Beckinsale) eight-year-old daughter from danger. This type of compelling and straightforward plotline seems tailor-made for an action-packed film experience.
As a film enthusiast, I’m excited to share that I’ll be joining forces with Kate Beckinsale and Lewis Tan on the set of “Lioness.” The rest of our talented cast includes Rasmus Hardiker, Alice Krige, Bailey Patrick, Tom Bennett, Matt Willis, and Roxy Striar. This action-packed movie is under the skilled direction of James Nunn, who has a proven track record in the genre, particularly with the Scott Adkins films “One Shot” and “One More Shot.” These movies showcased Nunn’s ability to seamlessly integrate the martial arts skills of Adkins into two heart-pounding thrillers that felt like they were filmed in a single, continuous shot. I can hardly wait to witness the action movie magic he’ll weave with “Lioness.
Kate Beckinsale Is No Stranger to Action
Kate Beckinsale is also no stranger to action movie fare, having led the Underworld franchise, as well as starring in Total Recall, Van Helsing, and Jolt. The actress recently sprung back into action in last year’s action thriller Canary Black, which hails from the director behind Taken, Pierre Morel. Canary Black is now available to stream on Prime Video, and follows a top CIA operative, Avery Graves, who is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband. Cut off from her team, she turns to her underworld contacts to survive and help locate the coveted intelligence that the kidnappers want.
In addition to portraying a lioness on screen, Beckinsale will also showcase her dramatic talents in the kidnapping thriller “Stolen Daughter.” This film has Beckinsale playing the central role as an American woman who dedicates over a decade to locating her daughter who was abducted by the child’s father and taken to the Middle East. Upon finding her, she is faced with what is described in the official synopsis as “the most challenging decision of her life.
Lewis Tan, who is both an actor and martial artist, will reprise his role as Cole Young in this year’s movie adaptation of Mortal Kombat 2. This action-packed sequel is helmed by director Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater. The film is set to premiere in theaters on October 24th, and Tan will be joined by returning cast members Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Additionally, Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle, and Damon Herriman have joined the cast for this highly anticipated production.
