The people responsible for managing The Bachelor series on ABC are planning to leave, marking a new change in the production team of this reality TV show franchise.
Claire Freeland and Bennett Graebner are planning to step down from their roles, which they’ve been holding since the series creator Mike Fleiss departed in 2023. Their decisions to leave follow accusations that they fostered a “toxic” and “hostile” work environment on The Bachelor. However, they have refuted these claims through their legal representative.
Warner Bros., which produces The Bachelor, and ABC declined to comment.
The allegations of a toxic work environment against Freeland and Graebner surfaced in a February article by Deadline, where over a dozen current and former staff members of ‘The Bachelor’ claimed the showrunners fostered an atmosphere of fear and secrecy. They cited instances of verbal abuse, which were followed closely by ABC’s decision not to air ‘The Bachelorette’ that summer, resulting in job losses for the show’s team. It was also Deadline that initially reported about Freeland and Graebner leaving the show.
Michael Weinsten, representing Freeland and Graebner, stated in response to the recent allegations, ‘Our clients are highly esteemed experts with a rich background in this field. They’re genuinely shocked and disheartened by certain claims they’ve just learned about for the first time.’
At the beginning of March, Michael Margolis and Keely Booth, who both serve as co-executive producers on the show, submitted their resignations and left the production. It’s worth noting that Michael Margolis is married to Freeland.
After Fleiss’ departure, Freeland, known for managing the Canadian version of ‘The Bachelor’, was appointed as a co-showrunner alongside Graebner and Jason Ehrlich, who had been involved with the franchise for many years. However, Ehrlich chose to leave in 2024 following his stint as showrunner for the first season of ‘The Golden Bachelor’.
