One of the more tricky weapons to master in Monster Hunter Wilds is the Bow, a tool whose combos are very fast-paced and difficult to execute for first-time players. Since every attack from a Bow drains your Stamina, it’s hard to know which moves chain together best without exhausting your hunter. Thankfully, there are plenty of tricks with the Bow that create natural combos to help you on every hunt.
The Bow is not the hardest weapon to use in Monster Hunter Wilds, but it does have plenty of quirks. For starters, the Bow has a Trick Arrow Gauge that you fill by landing attacks. As this Gauge fills up, you can expend parts of it to load special Coatings that buff your arrows or Tracer shots that cause your next projectiles to home in on parts of a monster.
Dash Dancing Combo
Shoot Arrows And Move Quickly
Returning from past games, the Dash Dance combo is still the most efficient technique of the Bow as you learn to use it. Dash Dancing utilizes the Charging Sidestep move, a technique where you can quickly dodge an incoming monster attack. However, instead of using this Sidestep defensively, I’ve found that this combo encourages you to use it on offense instead, moving toward or away from a monster after unleashing a fast burst of damage.
Here are the inputs for performing a basic Dash Dance combo, including default inputs for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox controls:
- PC = (While Aiming with Right Mouse Button) Space → Left Click → F → F → Space
- PlayStation = (While Aiming with L2) X → R2 → Circle → Circle → X
- Xbox = (While Aiming with L2) A → R2 → B → B → A
This combo starts with a Charging Sidestep, then transitions into an automatically Charged Shot that can be fired quickly. From here, you immediately perform a fast Power Shot and Power Volley, dealing great burst damage to whatever monster in Monster Hunter Wilds you’re fighting. Repeating a Dash Dance more than once gives you great mobility and burst damage while also avoiding incoming attacks.
Dragon Tracer Combo
Inflict The Most Damage Possible
Once you build up enough of your Trick Arrow Gauge, you can load a Tracer arrow into your Bow. This causes all of your following shots to lock onto where the Tracer arrow was shot, making it perfect for inflicting huge damage on a monster’s weak points. Combining a Thousand Dragons or Dragon Piercer shot onto a Tracer you’ve applied does tons of damage, sometimes staggering monsters or breaking parts.
Here is the input for this combo on all systems:
- PC = Left Mouse Button (Charged) → (While Aiming with Right Mouse Button) Left Mouse Button + E → Left Mouse Button → Left Mouse Button + R + F OR R + F
- PlayStation = R2 (Charged) → (While Aiming with L2) R2 + Square → R2 → R2 + Triangle + Circle OR Triangle + Circle
- Xbox = R2 (Charged) → (While Aiming with L2) R2 + B → R2 → R2 + Y + B OR Y + B
This combo starts with a Charged shot to help build your Trick Arrow Gauge, giving you enough meter to load a Tracer. When your Bow in Monster Hunter Wilds has a Tracer ready, you can unleash it at a monster’s weak point to cause your following arrows to target that spot. To end the combo, use a Dragon Piercer or Thousand Dragons shot to hit the Tracer before it explodes for the max damage possible.
Focus Wound Arc Hailstorm Combo
Create Injuries And Target Them
Making Open Wounds on a monster in Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the best ways to inflict damage, as targeting any injuries can stagger monsters with the right moves. This combo uses the Bow’s best move for creating Wounds before using the weapon’s Focus Strike to target them. The inputs below show how to do this powerful combo on all systems:
- PC = Left Mouse Button + Right Mouse Button + F → Left Mouse Button + Shift
- PlayStation = L2 + R2 + Circle → L2 + R1
- Xbox = L2 + R2 + B → L2 + R1
This combo starts with the Arc Shot of the Bow, which creates many cascading arrows to rain down on a target over an area you aim for. The Arc Shot creates tons of Open Wounds on a monster if used correctly, giving you an opportunity. When you make some Wounds, you then use your Focus Mode attack in Monster Hunter Wilds to immediately target those injuries.
The Bow’s Focus Strike is called Hailstorm, where a unique reticle appears to automatically lock onto Wounds created on a monster. Holding your Focus Strike attack causes you to target more Wounds with more arrows, which are released when you let go of the input. Letting go of the Hailstorm causes however many arrows you charge to fire, homing onto Wounds and breaking them if enough damage is dealt.
This combo can easily destroy Wounds, breaking off monster parts and toppling them if charged enough. While you can fit some Charged Shots or a Power Volley into this combo to deal extra damage, don’t forget how easily that will drain your Stamina. The best combos for the Bow in Monster Hunter Wilds are quick and efficient, utilizing the weapon’s speed to create openings and unleash powerful techniques.
