The third and final season of Bosch: Legacy is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video and Freevee on March 27, 2025, finally addressing whether Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) orchestrated a hit on his daughter Maddie’s (Madison Lintz) kidnapper. What is ‘Bosch: Legacy’ About?
A spin-off to the detective procedural TV series Bosch, Bosch: Legacy follows the title character into retirement, leaving his career with the LAPD behind to open a private investigation practice. As Harry Bosch (Welliver) adjusts to his new lifestyle, he assists his daughter Maddie (Lintz) on the ropes of police work, as she has joined the LAPD as a patrol officer. Bosch also helps high-powered attorney Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers) evade danger and avoid legal trouble, setting her up as Los Angeles’ next District Attorney.
The TV series “Bosch: Legacy” is based on Michael Connelly’s popular novels, with Season 1 being inspired by “The Wrong Side of Goodbye” and “The Night Fire.” In the first season finale, it appears that Maddie has been kidnapped by a serial rapist named Kurt Dockweiler, also known as Screen Cutter due to his burglary methods.
In Season 2, Connelly’s novels, “The Wrong Side of Goodbye” and “The Crossing,” were adapted, furthering Bosch’s pursuit of Dockweiler and focusing on Maddie’s mental health recovery after a traumatic event. At the end of Season 2, viewers were left in shock as they wondered if Bosch had hired a killer to murder Dockweiler after he was apprehended. The truth behind this pivotal question will be revealed in the climactic conclusion of the series following Season 3.
How ‘Bosch: Legacy’ sets up ‘Ballard’
Recently given the official title Ballard, Maggie Q will take the rudder handed by Titus Welliver and keep the Bosch franchise afloat. Homicide detective Renee Ballard will be introduced in the Bosch: Legacy finale, where she meets Harry and helps him with an unresolved case. In addition to leading the LAPD’s Cold Case Unit, Ballard is tasked with operating a severely underfunded workforce of volunteers in a city with the most unsolved cases on record.
Although no specific release date has been announced, it’s expected that the “Ballard” spin-off will premiere on both Amazon Prime Video and Freevee in the year 2025. Titus Welliver is set to feature in the pilot episode, where he will assist Ballard in unraveling a larger conspiracy that demands his exceptional detective skills.
Whether Madison Lintz reprises her role as Maddie Bosch, Michael Connelly assured fans that Ballard will have the same exhilarating formula as Bosch, stating (via Variety):
“It is so exciting to bring Renée Ballard to the screen and to do it with Prime Video, my streaming partners for going on 10 years. This show will have the same authenticity and propulsive momentum of ‘Bosch: Legacy.’ Fans of the books will love it.”
