Helldivers 2’s CEO Is on Board With the Minigun Idea

arrowhead Game Studios consistently fosters a close relationship with its community, addressing their feedback promptly.

Not long ago, Arrowhead looked into the idea of a complete rework of armor passives to allow for more versatile loadouts.

Another popular suggestion making the rounds recently is the idea of adding a minigun to Helldivers 2, and CEO Shams Jorjani has hinted that it’s not entirely off the table. While nothing has been confirmed just yet, his recent reply to a player has raised hopes that a handheld minigun might eventually make its way into the game.

The discussion unfolded in Helldivers 2’s official Discord (via GameRant), where a fan pitched a concept inspired by Killzone Shadow Fall. The idea was basic, yet it worked: a minigun that doesn’t need reloading and overheats if you fire it too long.

Given that Helldivers 2 recently had a Killzone crossover, this suggestion wasn’t too far-fetched. Jorjani saw the request and mentioned he sits next to the studio’s weapons designer and would ask them again. While it’s not a solid yes, the fact that he brought it up makes it seem like the team’s considering it.

The demand for a player-controlled minigun isn’t new. Since Helldivers 2 dropped, players have been pretty loud about wanting a high-powered, rapid-fire weapon they can get their hands on.

A minigun could be added in a few different ways to keep things balanced in Helldivers 2’s co-op mode. One possibility is a backpack-fed system that relies on an ammo supply, similar to real-world miniguns. Another option might be to turn it into a two-person weapon, where one player operates the gun, and the other manages and carries the ammo. This would make teamwork more important and stop it from becoming too OP.

Regardless of whether the minigun becomes a reality, Helldivers 2 shows no signs of slowing down. The Galactic War is evolving with new Major Orders to dive into, and Arrowhead Game Studios has more weapons and content lined up for 2025.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if the minigun makes the cut.

But given Arrowhead’s track record of paying attention to the community, it’s pretty likely this weapon will land on the battlefield eventually.
