Gypceros are particularly known for their deceptive strategies. With a blend of abilities that make it highly deadly in one regard and immune to certain items or elemental attacks in the other, Gypceros aren’t easy to take down. In that case, it’s vital to understand how these birds behave and the environmental conditions that can influence them.
This guide will assist you in finding the elusive Flying Wyverns in Monster Hunter Wilds. It covers all aspects, including where to find them, suitable equipment, and effective tactics to harm and ultimately catch these creatures.
Understanding Gypceros in Monster Hunter Wilds
For starters, Gypceros is a Flying Wyvern known for its deception. Possessing a rubbery hide, the bird’s particularly immune to Thunder-type damage in the game. Another notable tactic of Gypceros is faking death to catch hunters off-guard. They’re also able to emit a flash from their crest, providing them with stun abilities. Their hits are poison-based—mostly.
Where Are Gypceros Located in Monster Hunter Wilds?
Unlike other creatures in the game where you’d find them inhabiting a single place or area, Gypceros don’t restrict themselves. There is not one single place where you’d find them. It can either be the Windward Plains, the Iceshard Cliffs, The Basin, Wyveria, or Wounded Wollow.
In the Windward Plains, Gypceros typically appears when the weather is Fallow. Hunters can monitor their spawn time by accessing the map and checking the Forecast on the Environment Overview. In the Basin, the Wyverns are present near the big crater.
Preparation for the Hunt
When confronting the Wyvern, be prepared for a tough fight. Due to its wide range of abilities, Gypceros breaks off the fight with multiple physical attacks meant to critically lower your health. You’ll also find it using its signature flash to blind and stun players. Additionally, it will also fake its death to counter you when you’ve got your guard down.
In situations similar to this, it’s wise to keep a safe distance from the Wyvern, as it launches a lethal attack upon ascension, injuring anyone close by. Given that Gypceros possess an array of distinctive skills, making them highly effective in the game, it’s advisable to approach with caution and be strategically prepared.

For starters, it’s recommended to not use Thunder-based weapons or shock traps due to the Wyvern’s immunity. Its abilities mean normal items aren’t potent—the Wyvern won’t be affected much by Flash Pods, Shock Traps, or Sonic Bombs—even Poison isn’t going to do much.
With that in mind, it’s advised to go for the creature’s head, as it not only stops the flash but also registers critical damage. When not trying to harm the Wyvern, you can paralyze, stun, or put it to sleep. When you get the indicator that a flash is nearby (through movements and distinguishable sound), though—fall back.
Pro Tip: Ice is the most potent element against Gypceros’ Head and Wings, followed by Fire.
