‘Tulsa King’ Renewed for 3 With Another Showrunner Shakeup

In the upcoming third season, Sylvester Stallone reprises his role as the Oklahoma crime boss, Dwight “The General” Manfredi, in Tulsa King.

Paramount+ has begun filming a fresh season of its popular streaming show in Atlanta and Oklahoma.

The renewal wasn’t unexpected, given that the second season debut on Paramount+ in September was their most-viewed global premiere ever, and the show consistently ranked among the Nielsen Top 10 streaming titles during the remainder of its second season.

For season three, executive producer Dave Erickson will take over as sole showrunner. Erikson is the showrunner of another Taylor Sheridan series, Mayor of Kingstown, and recently signed a multi-year overall deal with MTV Entertainment Studios.

The announcement lacks a couple key behind-the-scenes names from season two. On-again, off-again lead writer Terence Winter wasn’t included in the mix. Last season also brought aboard Craig Zisk to serve as lead director. The duo essentially split showrunning duties, with Winter handling the writing side and Zisk handling the on-the-ground production duties.

It’s uncertain exactly when it will air, but it looks likely that the third season will be released during the last three months of this year.

The news follows Stallone being announced as one of President Trump’s trio of “Special Ambassadors” to “troubled” Hollywood back in January (along with Mel Gibson and Jon Voight). It is still unclear what that designation actually entails.

In addition to Tulsa King, Sheridan’s slate on Paramount+ includes Landman, 1923, Lioness and Mayor of Kingstown.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, Tulsa King is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Stallone, Erickson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Braden Aftergood, Jim McKay, Sheri Elwood, Ildy Modrovich and Keith Cox.
