Filmart: Well Go Takes U.S. Rights to Korean Crime-Thriller ‘Yadang: The Snitch’ Starring Kang Ha-neul (Exclusive)

U.S.-based studio Well Go USA has secured the rights to screen the Korean crime-thriller “Yadang: The Snitch” in North American theaters. Starring Squid Game’s Kang Ha-neul, the film was acquired from leading Korean production company Plus M and is set for release in North American cinemas this spring. The agreement was announced on Tuesday at the Filmart content market held in Hong Kong.

Under the direction of Hwang Byeong-gug, known for “Wedding Campaign” and “S.I.U.”, comes the movie “Yadang: The Snitch”. This film is marketed as a fresh perspective on the drug-lord crime saga. Yoo Hai-jin, who played a significant role in “Exhuma”, and Park Hae-joon, star of “12.12: The Day”, are featured alongside Kang in this production.

In this rephrased version:

Kang assumes the role of Kang-suee, a streetwise character navigating the treacherous divide between authority and criminal circles. Framed unjustly and incarcerated, he enters into a perilous agreement with prosecutor Kuee Gwan-hee (Yoo). In exchange for his freedom, he agrees to serve as an informant. However, as he delves further into the lethal realm of drug lords, government corruption, and sinister machinations, Kang-suee comes to understand that he’s merely a piece on a much larger chessboard – where trust is scarce and treachery carries a heavy cost.

In a recent announcement regarding an upcoming film, Hwang shared that he was motivated to create the movie after coming across a news article detailing the activities of underworld informants who frequently visit Korean prosecutors’ offices, offering information in return for favors. The director expressed his belief that exploring the character of the informant could set his story apart from other Korean drug war films that have been released in recent times.

The director stated, as reported by the Korean Times, that they seem to operate within the law, but there’s something questionable about them. They reside in a murky part of legality, he said. He found this intriguing and thought it would be suitable for a captivating movie.

Doris Pfardrescher, president and CEO at Well Go USA, shares her excitement about introducing “Yadang: The Snitch” to North American viewers. This nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thriller offers a nonstop journey filled with unforeseen twists and turns. Its suspenseful atmosphere and strong performances create a captivating narrative that lingers long after the credits roll.

Yadang: The Snitch opens in South Korea on April 23.
