Actress Mia McKenna-Bruce will play the role of Jane Andrews, a former royal aide, opposite Natalie Dormer’s portrayal of Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, in the upcoming four-part series titled “The Lady“.
Written by Debbie O’Malley, this series titled “The Crown” is produced by Left Bank Pictures, aired on ITV and BritBox International. Debbie and Ed Speleers (known for shows like “You” and “Downton Abbey”) will star in the show, with Ed playing Thomas Cressman. The cast also includes Philip Glenister, Claire Skinner, Laura Aikman, Ophelia Lovibond, Mark Stanley, Daniel Ryan, and Sean Teale in supporting roles. Lee Haven Jones (“A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story”) is expected to direct the series.
The Story traces the journey of Jane Andrews, a once royal seamstress, who experienced a meteoric rise to wealth only to have her Cinderella story crumble when she faced conviction for murder.
In a surprising twist of fate, I, once a humble working-class girl, saw an advertisement in a magazine that led me to become the Duchess of York’s personal attendant at Buckingham Palace. Surrounded by the elite of British society, I managed to carve out a niche for myself among the upper classes, but unfortunately lost my position with the Duchess after nine years of service. The fall from grace left me dazed and confused. However, destiny had more in store for me as I crossed paths with captivating businessman Thomas Cressman, whom I grew to love deeply. Yet, as time passed, flaws began to emerge in the relationship that I had placed all my trust in, leading to a heart-wrenching turn of events.
The Lady is being produced for ITV under the supervision of Polly Hill, its drama director, and for BritBox by Jess O’Riordan, commissioning executive. Polly Hill will manage production for ITV, while O’Riordan and Stephen Nye, a senior commissioning executive at BritBox, will oversee the project for BritBox. Robert Schildhouse, president of BritBox North America and general manager of BritBox International, along with O’Riordan and Nye, will serve as executive producers for BritBox, while Hill does so for ITV.
In this production, O’Malley takes on an executive producer role. Meanwhile, Florence Haddon-Cave is in charge as the main producer. For Left Bank Pictures, the creative director Sian McWilliams, CEO Andy Harries, and Rebecca Hodgson assume the position of executive producers.
I’m thrilled to share that this captivating series is set to premiere on both ITV1 and STV, and for those who can’t make it to the live broadcast, it will be accessible for streaming on ITVX and STV Player within the United Kingdom. For our friends across the pond in the U.S. and Canada, you won’t miss out either! It will also be available on BritBox, so everyone gets a chance to experience this incredible show.
Sony Pictures Television will distribute The Lady internationally.
