A fresh true-crime series titled Happy Face is coming to Paramount+ this Spring, featuring eight gripping episodes. Originally a 2018 podcast, this docudrama revolves around a teenage girl who uncovers her father’s dark secret – he was the Happy Face Killer, a serial kidnapper and murderer responsible for the deaths of at least eight women in the 90s. Leading roles are played by Dennis Quaid and Annaleigh Ashford as the central father-daughter duo.

What To Expect From ‘Happy Face’
Michelle and Robert King, known for their work on “Evil,” have developed a true crime drama titled “Happy Face” for Paramount+. This series draws inspiration from the 2018 podcast of the same name and Melissa Moore’s autobiography, “Shattered Silence.” The narrative revolves around Annaleigh Ashford’s character, Melissa Moore, who is a makeup artist on a fictional television program called “The Dr. Greg Show.
Hazel (Aynne), Melissa’s teenager, gets a mysterious phone call that sends her on a journey to Texas to solve a murder. This event prompts Melissa to remember when she found out her father was the notorious Happy Face Killer. Dr. Greg is similar to Dr. Oz, a person whom Moore worked for in reality.
With her friend and producer Ivy Tomakili, Hazel embarks on a trip to Texas to probe into the death of Heather Richardson. It is later discovered that Hazel’s grandfather, Keith Hunter Jesperson, could potentially be the notorious Happy Face Killer – a Canadian-American serial killer who strangled at least eight women in the U.S., leaving behind letters with happy faces as a macabre message to the public.
As a movie enthusiast, I’d put it this way: In the heart of the story, we have Melissa’s spouse, Ben Moore (James Wolk), who shares the screen with Hazel’s father. Hazel’s younger sibling, Max (Benjamin Mackey), also makes an appearance, as does her closest friend and crime expert, Eva (Momona Tamada). The captivating Dr. Greg, portrayed by David Harewood, graces our TV screens as the host of the talk show where Melissa works. However, the character instrumental in bringing Keith to justice is Elijah (Damon Gupton), a Texas inmate on death row, wrongly convicted for a 1995 murder that was actually Keith’s doing.
The following actors are also part of the cast in “Happy Face”: Connor Paton, River Codack, Philip Granger, Jennifer Spence, Zara Nikou Sichani, Marci T. House, Ava Telek, Charles Zuckermann, Kathleen Duborg, and Jenn Lyon.
