The follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, known as Project Orion, has been officially announced multiple times. While enthusiasts eagerly anticipate this role-playing game, they are prepared for a bit of waiting. The director behind the successful Phantom Liberty expansion for 2077 will be at the helm of this sequel, promising a high-quality outcome. However, many fans can only hope that it won’t suffer from the same launch issues as its predecessor.
According to more recent news, it’s been hinted that the sequel might adopt a first-person viewpoint once more. Given the success of the FPS perspective in the original game and Phantom Liberty, it’s plausible. Yet, returning to this camera angle raises questions about potentially removing the character customization aspect.
At first, players were thrilled about personalizing V’s appearance, as they thought they had control over this character’s looks. However, the excitement soon faded when gamers recalled that this was a first-person role-playing game, which switches to third-person perspective only when riding vehicles. Thus, it appears that this mirror reflection feature might not serve much purpose.
As Project Orion continues its development, there’s a growing sentiment among fans that CD Projekt Red might reconsider including this feature. While the dedication put into Cyberpunk 2077 was impressive, it seems unfair to invest so much time and resources into a mechanic that ignores the player’s actions later on. It feels like a disappointing move, almost as if it were a slap in the face. This feature could be easily removed unless they decide to switch to a third-person perspective similar to The Witcher series.
It seems possible that the extended exposure to Marvel Rivals has made this author perceive cosmetics for first-person shooters as lackluster. Applying these skins in games like Overwatch 2 and Doom Eternal often feels insignificant because you don’t get to appreciate their coolness during gameplay. In contrast, with Marvel Rivals, one can actually see how striking Psylocke appears in that assassin’s revealing bathing suit outfit.
In the light of how well-received characters such as Geralt and Ciri are in The Witcher series, it’s possible for the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 game to incorporate an established character with a distinct appearance. They could allow players to customize aspects like armor, weapons, and hairstyle, but maintaining a consistent base appearance for the character wouldn’t present a major challenge.
Anticipation for Cyberpunk is set to soar as Project Orion nears release, with anime enthusiasts already smitten by Edgerunners and Lucy’s appearance in Guilty Gear Strive. The positive reception towards Phantom Liberty and the main game has also been successful in winning back disgruntled fans, despite the fact that we seldom get a full view of V.
It’s uncertain whether the Cyberpunk 2077 follow-up will reinstate character customization or feature additional scenes of third-person navigation, as these are merely possibilities at this point.
