Sean Hayes and HBO team up to bring you Billy Joel documentary

It’s hard to imagine, but Billy Joel has been creating music for over half a century now. His first album, “Cold Spring Harbor,” was released in 1971. This gives anyone aiming to cover the extensive span of his career quite a large amount of territory to explore. Luckily, HBO (Max) is planning to take on this challenge.

This summer, HBO is expected to release a highly-anticipated documentary titled “Billy Joel: And So It Goes“. Produced by a team of esteemed executive producers, this two-part series will delve into the life and career of Billy Joel, who has enjoyed a long and illustrious musical journey. Notably, Susan Lacy, an acclaimed director and producer with a diverse portfolio including work with Spielberg, will helm this project.

It isn’t clear whether Joel has a role in the documentary beyond using archival footage, but according to Rolling Stone, he approved of the project. However, keep in mind that this documentary is unlikely to portray Joel in a purely positive manner, as Lacy and HBO usually produce documentaries that are balanced and fair to both the subject and the viewer.

It’s likely that Joel desires the truth to be revealed just as much. He may not wish to appear negatively, but he values honesty. Similarly, there should be no compromise on this when it comes to the makers of the documentary.

The involvement of several well-known figures such as Sean Hayes from “Will & Grace” and the “Smartless” podcast, Tom Hanks from numerous beloved movies, and Steve Cohen, owner of the New York Mets, suggests a significant investment in this project. This increased funding typically signifies a higher standard of quality.

I’m absolutely ecstatic and humbled to join this extraordinary endeavor focusing on a truly exceptional artist who holds a significant place in my musical heart – none other than the legendary Billy Joel himself! I can hardly contain my excitement as we approach its unveiling this coming summer. #BillyJoel

Regrettably, Joel’s health has taken a turn due to some recent unspecified medical problems. This necessitated an operation, causing him to reschedule all his upcoming concerts over the next few months. Presently, it’s uncertain if he will be able to perform until November, and even that date may be at risk.
