From the newly revealed lineup for “Avengers: Doomsday”, it’s evident that Marvel is going all-out to deliver an epic tale drawing from various realms of the Multiverse. This could be a hint of what we might expect in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. Fingers crossed, the production process for “Doomsday” goes more smoothly for the cast than it seemed to for Hayley Atwell during the sequel of “Doctor Strange”.
Actress Hayley Atwell briefly makes an appearance as Captain Carter in “Multiverse of Madness,” marking the live-action debut for a character she previously voiced in Marvel’s animated “What If…?” series (available on Disney+ with a subscription). In an interview on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Atwell shared that she initially had reservations about her character’s appearance and the manner in which she was swiftly written off. Atwell stated…
In the movie Doctor Strange, I had a brief appearance as Captain Carter. If you blink, you might miss me. However, I found it disappointing that she delivered such an excellent line, “I could do this all day,” only to be killed off in a humorous yet problematic way – tossed with her own shield. It felt like they were undermining her character, and it was disheartening to see her potential being wasted in such a manner.
Many fans expressed disappointment over the swift elimination of a diverse group of heroes, such as Captain Carter, John Krasinski’s Mr. Fantastic, and the reappearance of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, at the hands of the rampaging Scarlet Witch. While this scene was intended to highlight the villain’s immense power, it doesn’t make it any less difficult for fans to accept Captain Carter’s quick defeat.

On the film set, Atwell expressed her displeasure with how her character was portrayed and discussed potential improvements with someone in a directorial role. She suggested minor adjustments to camera angles and lighting. It’s unclear whether this was Sam Raimi or another assistant director who oversaw action sequences at the time.
At first, the director dismissed Atwell’s viewpoint and attempted to overlook it, but Atwell remained firm. Once the director understood that Atwell wouldn’t yield, he attempted to downplay the situation by claiming he was merely “teasing” her. However, Atwell countered…
You can’t bully me. I’ve got a jetpack on!
According to Atwell, her collaborations with Tom Cruise on the latest Mission: Impossible films have significantly boosted her confidence to assert herself more effectively on set. Whether the scenes in the film aligned with her preferences or not isn’t clear, but what mattered was that she took every opportunity to make a difference – and that’s all anyone can really ask for.
