A multitude of Oscar-winning actors have shone brilliantly in Marvel films, such as Robert Downey Jr., Robert Redford, Gwyneth Paltrow, and others. However, one may wonder where Viola Davis fits into this picture. Luckily, the actress has expressed her desire to be a part of the MCU, and I can’t help but laugh at her potential character concept!
Viola Davis is one of the actresses we’re eager to see in a Marvel film for various reasons. She has experience in comic book adaptations, having played the ruthless Amanda Waller in “Suicide Squad” and its sequel. Moreover, her upcoming movie release in 2025, “G2O,” underscores her impressive capabilities. At the premiere of this film, EW asked the EGOT winner if she’d consider being part of a future Marvel production, to which she responded:
Of course, definitely! But if I were to pick a hero, I’m not sure which one I’d choose. You see, my little one is a massive Marvel enthusiast, so I’ve probably rewatched most of the movies about five or six times.
I’ve been utterly captivated by Viola Davis’s exceptional performances, particularly her knack for embodying strong female characters flawlessly. From fiercely challenging the educational system in “Still I Rise” to embodying a fearsome warrior in “The Woman King”, it strikes me that Davis possesses the talent and charisma required to bring a superhero to life on screen.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, if I were to envision Viola Davis stepping into the Marvel universe as a never-before-seen superhero, my mind instantly drifts towards Moondragon. Originating from the Iron Man comics, this character is renowned for her immense psychic abilities and transformative powers that allow her to take the form of a dragon. Yet, Viola Davis herself seems to have other ideas about the role she’d like to embody, and it’s quite amusing to think about!
Probably an Iron Man. I would be — maybe Iron Mania? Iron Shaniqua Mania?
I find “Iron Shaniqua Mania” a bit cumbersome, but I’m hoping it becomes a reality. In fact, I’d be thrilled if Viola Davis donned an iron suit and battled villains in the skies. Although the Iron Man we’re familiar with made the ultimate sacrifice at the end of “Avengers: Endgame,” the Marvel multiverse could conjure up an Iron Woman from another dimension for us.
Viola Davis has demonstrated both emotional depth and physical prowess in her acting career, making her a strong contender for a Marvel superhero role. For instance, as the star of ‘How to Get Away with Murder’, she took on many stunts herself during fight scenes, and even managed the physical challenges presented by ‘The Woman King’. Moreover, she showcased her fitness transformation after putting on weight for ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’. Given her versatile acting abilities and impressive physical feats, it seems fitting that Viola Davis should finally step into a superhero costume.
After Davis has shown an interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I can’t wait to see her portray a Marvel character. Alternatively, how about “Iron Shaniqua Mania”? That’s quite amusing. As of now, “Iron Mania” or “Iron Shaniqua Mania” might not be present in the MCU, but you can catch “G20” on your Amazon Prime Video subscription from April 10th.
