Unboxing: Heineken®’s Amusing New Phone Case Quite Literally Flips Your Phone Over When You’re Out Socializing

During social outings, it’s simple to lose focus due to social media alerts on our phones, keeping us from fully experiencing the present. To address the issue of “phubbing” or phone ignoring, Heineken® has innovatively developed a unique anti-distraction device: “The Flipper.” This humorous phone case is designed to emphasize the benefits of stepping away from social media and instead fostering genuine connections in person.

The Flipper” is a robot designed to help people worldwide by automatically turning their phones face down when it recognizes the word “cheers”. This AI-powered device, while playfully associated with Heineken®, addresses a broader issue that exists globally.

Heineken® tapped the services of Swedish inventor Simone Giertz, famous for her amusing gadgets designed to tackle everyday issues, to evaluate their new device. In conversation about the brand’s phone case, she expressed, “I’ve been attempting to reduce my screen time and increase real-life interactions. My approach so far has been self-criticism, but it hasn’t proven effective. I find ‘The Flipper’ appealing – it’s a smart solution that serves as a gentle nudge for me not to get sidetracked by social media while trying to engage with others.

In line with its dedication to enjoying real-life experiences over digital distractions, the beer brand has unveiled another device following last year’s collaboration with Bodega for “The Uninteresting Phone” – a vintage flip phone stripped of modern smartphone’s distracting features, promoting being fully engaged without digital interference. The brand is also known for “The Closer”, a technologically advanced bottle opener that, when used to open a Heineken® beer, temporarily shuts down work applications, providing a humorous solution to our constantly connected lifestyle.
