Reading isn’t always a breeze; not only are books often pricey, but when an author like Sarah Hogle releases a new book such as “The Folklore of Forever“, it can be quite a challenge to get your hands on it ahead of everyone else.
Ever since Sarah Hogle published her first book, “You Deserve Each Other”, I’ve been a devoted fan of hers. There’s something enchanting about her writing that always leaves me captivated. So, I was both thrilled and apprehensive when she began her “Moonville” series.
If you’ve come across any other works by Hogle, you’ll recognize that this series marks a significant change in her writing style compared to her previous books. However, this shift has just made me admire and cherish her talent even more as an author. Last year, “Old Flames and New Fortunes” was one of my favorite reads, so I eagerly devoured “The Folklore of Forever” as soon as I received the ARC.
I’m grateful to Putnam for providing me with an ARC and keeping me updated about the latest Sarah Hogle releases. A special nod goes out to Nicole, who has been exceptionally helpful in this process.
The Folklore of Forever is a spellbindingly fun story.
Titled “The Eternity of Folklore,” this narrative revolves around Zelda Tempest, who among her kin is the sole skeptic when it comes to their alleged witchcraft. Although she pens a paranormal mystery collection, she dismisses her sisters’ practices and has no intentions of altering that stance. As one could surmise, the storyline doesn’t strictly adhere to this setup.
Initially doubtful, Zelda eventually encounters Morgan, who resides next door and contributes articles to the local newspaper. The situation seems ripe for romance, but an unexpected twist arises when Morgan auctions off a date with her. Instead of a conventional outing, he opts for ghost-hunting, creating a surprisingly eerie yet romantic atmosphere. Doesn’t Sarah Hogle have a knack for painting vivid scenarios? It’s quite extraordinary.
Regardless of the initial pursuit of ghosts, the adventure instead leads them to the discovery of an ancient, forgotten witch. The journey is nothing short of enchanting. Although their romantic feelings take time to blossom, it’s evident that they harbor emotions they’re yet to acknowledge openly. It’s amusing to observe Zelda’s attempts to rationalize situations without relying on magic.
Although “The Folklore of Forever” doesn’t stir my heart as deeply as “Old Flames and New Fortunes”, this tantalizing slow-burn novel will leave you eager to prepare a pot of tea, settle into your preferred reading nook, and savor it thoroughly. If you found the initial book captivating, this one will undoubtedly pique your interest in revisiting the first and further fuel anticipation for what lies ahead.
The Folklore of Forever by Sarah Hogle is out now where books are sold.
