Marvel Rivals Players Are Farming Lord Icons — And It’s Becoming a Problem

Have you ever pondered over how your team’s Emma Frost already bears the title of Lord? Logically, she either earned it through the rigors of Quick Play or Competitive Modes, but considering the substantial effort and time invested in achieving Lord status for a Marvel Rivals character, it’s more likely that she’s been diligently accumulating this rank, or in simpler terms, “farming” the Lord title.

Marvel Rivals gamers have discovered an popular tactic known as Lord Farming, aimed at quickly earning the prestigious Lord emblem for a hero. This strategy took off when Doom Match, a mode similar to Deathmatch, debuted during Season 1. The mode provided a “risk-free, high-reward” setting that allowed players to experiment and accumulate Lord points without affecting their rank.

As a devoted fan, let me explain the concept of “Lord” status in Marvel Rivals – it’s like an achievement badge showcasing your dedication to a particular hero. It’s similar to Mastery from League of Legends, but instead, your character’s icon changes. Achieving Lord status typically requires 20 hours or more for each hero, and with 38 heroes in the game, it’s quite an extensive time commitment. However, if you’re looking to cut down on the grinding, there’s a method called “Lord Farming” that reduces the time required to less than 10 hours. In Ranked mode, it can be misleading that a player has a Lord icon, as it doesn’t guarantee they are skilled; rather, it indicates they have invested considerable time with that particular hero. When players accumulate Lord points in Doom Matches without mastering the hero’s gameplay, it fosters an illusion of ability. These individuals often concentrate on earning points rather than on winning or enhancing their skills, leading to repetitive actions in Quick Play and Doom Matches.

Issues tend to arise in competitive play, especially when you encounter someone who has a Lord icon. It’s easy to think they are skilled, but frequently they’ve just been accumulating the icon through repeated play—a matter that has sparked much discussion within the gaming community, as evidenced by this Reddit post.

Lord Farming is a playful strategy, not necessarily demonstrating a player’s true ability, but rather indicating the amount of time they’ve invested in a particular hero. Some players have chosen to remove their Lord icons from their inventory to prevent others from judging their performance when it falls short.
