It has been confirmed that the promotional content for DC Studios’ upcoming Superman film reveals seven distinctive adversaries and foes who will be the main focus in DC’s highly anticipated summer blockbuster.

Fans of DC comics are excitedly anticipating the release of a second full trailer for James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, marking his debut as director in the new DC Universe following his promotion to co-CEO at DC Studios. This film will be the first solo Superman movie since 2013’s “Man of Steel,” and David Corenswet’s portrayal of the hero is poised to enter a world already teeming with turmoil.

After the release of “Creature Commandos” in 2024, featuring a squad composed entirely of villains, Clark Kent and his team won’t find it difficult to find adversaries as the storyline progresses.

Hammer of Boravia

I recently got a sneak peek at the making of the 2025’s Superman film, and it appears they’ve added a new baddie to the mix – the Hammer of Boravia. In one of the videos, he makes his grand entrance at about the 1 minute and 39 second mark, all decked out in a futuristic armor suit. Interestingly, I also spotted him on the front page of the Daily Planet in some other trailer snippets.

It’s worth noting that this character doesn’t seem to be modeled after a DC Comics villain; instead, he was specifically designed by director James Gunn for this film. Although Bovaria is a well-known location in comic book lore, the Hammer of Bovaria isn’t a character typically associated with that country.

As a dedicated cinephile eagerly anticipating the release of “Superman,” I can’t help but wonder about the mysterious new character. The secrets surrounding him have me on the edge of my seat, waiting to see the havoc he wreaks once the film hits the big screen in its entirety.

Lex Luthor

Without a doubt, there’s no DC Comics villain more intertwined with Clark Kent than Lex Luthor. In the upcoming film “Superman“, Nicholas Hoult will bring Lex Luthor to life for the first time within the DC Universe. It is anticipated that he will continue to play a significant role in the franchise beyond this movie as well.

As a passionate filmgoer, I can’t help but notice the tense dynamic between Luthor and Superman in this movie. From the moment he learns about the existence of this metahuman, Luther seems to detest Clark Kent instantly. The reasons behind his desire to eliminate Superman remain unclear, yet it’s evident that he’s prepared to use all his resources to make sure Supes is out of the picture.

Ultraman

In the upcoming Superman series, an unidentified actor will portray the villain, while another antagonist joining the large cast is Ultraman, who wears a dark suit. Many characters have taken on this role in the comics, but they all share a connection – they are alternate versions of Superman from different realities.

It’s crucial to note that Ultraman gains power from contact with Kryptonite, a substance commonly portrayed as Superman’s greatest vulnerability across various media outlets. In his original universe, he holds the position of leader for the Justice League’s wicked counterpart, the Crime Syndicate.

In the initial movie trailer, we catch a glimpse of Ultraman engaged in an intense fight with Superman on a baseball field; however, the exact function or position he holds within the film remains undisclosed.

The Engineer

In the upcoming Superman film, the primary antagonist appearing in the fourth role is none other than Angela Spica, familiarly recognized as The Engineer among DC comics enthusiasts. This character will be brought to life on screen by actress María Gabriela de Faría.

The Engineer is recognized within the organization as one of its prominent figures, set to shine in a standalone film within the DC Universe at a later date. Her physique is remarkable, thanks to advanced nanotechnology integrated within her system, enabling her to transform into lethal weaponry.

As the story unfolds, it’s possible that the antagonist could be associated with Lex Luthor, which could create a formidable team as they target Superman together, possibly causing great fear.

White Alien Villain

In a brief additional teaser for DC’s upcoming Superman series, viewers spotted an enigmatic, white extraterrestrial figure who seemed to be neither clearly identified nor specified. This puzzling entity was seen standing alongside Lex Luthor and his security personnel.

From my perspective as an enthusiast, it’s intriguing that there’s no background or footage of this character in the actual Superman movie, yet some speculate he might be a space-dweller discovered by Lex and enlisted to combat Superman. Alternatively, he could be someone whom Lex approaches for information about the Kryptonian hero.

It’s possible he might resemble the White Martian character known as J’onn J’onzz or the Martian Manhunter. This hints at the possibility of his species being introduced more prominently within the broader DC Universe in the near future.

LexCorp Soldiers

A sizable contingent of soldiers donning green and purple armor, equipped with substantial headgear and face masks, can be noticed standing beside Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor. It is anticipated that these soldiers are the DC Universe’s rendition of LexCorp troops, serving as a private military force for Lex, as he aims to seize control over Metropolis.

Kaiju

In the initial trailer for Superman, a colossal, fire-spewing Kaiju monster, capable of devastating Metropolis, was given significant focus. This monster has subsequently appeared in an authorized merchandise item, where he’s seen restrained with handcuffs. This could imply that the city’s destruction by this beast will be halted and that Superman and his team will capture it.

Superman will soar into theaters on July 11.
