Is Shawn Ashmore Secretly Returning for Avengers: Doomsday? The Truth Revealed

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to provide fresh content, both in cinemas and on Disney+ streaming platform. One of the most eagerly awaited upcoming Marvel films is “Avengers: Doomsday”, which promises a massive gathering of characters. Following a live-stream by Marvel, it was disclosed that the cast for “Doomsday” includes several original X-Men actors, and Shawn Ashmore, who plays Iceman, shared his thoughts on whether he might reappear in the film.

Information about “Avengers: Doomsday” is scarce, but a partial cast list has been revealed, suggesting some (not all) of the actors will be featured. Since the “X-Men” films were made before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s exciting to see many original actors reprising their roles. In an interview with Nerd Reactor, Ashmore was questioned about whether he would reappear as Bobby. He responded candidly, saying:

This is the strange part – I can’t say I am, but I’m not. There’s been no communication about it, and I haven’t been cast in it yet. People have been asking me if I’m in the movie since the last Deadpool film, but I assure you, I’m not. However, I remain open to reprising my role should the opportunity arise again. But for now, there hasn’t been any contact.

Due to the strict security measures at Marvel Studios, it’s seldom that actors will provide truthful information about the movie “Avengers: Doomsday“. Although Ashmore stated he couldn’t disclose whether he would reprise his role as Iceman, it seems unlikely that he’s had discussions with the studio regarding this. Therefore, we might not want to get too excited about the comeback of the ice-controlling mutant.

On Disney+, you can now stream the X-Men series and Marvel Cinematic Universe starting from just $9.99 per month with their new ad-supported plan. Check it out here!

Enthusiasts who have followed the Marvel films chronologically for years are eager, though not exactly impulsive, to see the X-Men enter the fray. With Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, this possibility became a reality. However, Kevin Feige and his team haven’t hastened to produce an X-Men film. The moment when universes truly intertwine will be when Avengers: Doomsday reintroduces several cherished characters from the previous X-Men series.

Though Shawn Ashmore wasn’t mentioned in the major Doomsday declaration, several of his co-stars were. To be specific, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique were all included. This is quite a substantial gathering of X-Men, but fans are still eager for more original members to reappear. For instance, there’s curiosity about Ashmore’s role as Bobby/Iceman.

Indeed, the 45-year-old actor isn’t the sole X-Men cast member who’s been asked about a comeback lately. For one example, Halle Berry has also stated that she won’t be in “Doomsday”. However, with memories of Andrew Garfield fibbing for years about Spider-Man still fresh, fans find it hard to trust superhero actors these days when they discuss potential returns.

The secrets will be unveiled when “Avengers: Doomsday” premieres in theaters on May 1st, 2026. However, before that, we’ll see the premiere of “Thunderbolts*” on May 2nd, which is part of the 2025 movie lineup.
