This nickname mirrors her bond with the quirky family in the 1991 and 1993 ‘Addams Family’ and ‘Addams Family Values’ films. Interestingly, this name was a change in Hester Frump’s character’s background from the original 1960s ‘Addams Family’ series, where Grandmama and Granny Frump were separate characters – the former being Gomez Addams’ mother, while the latter was Morticia’s.
The confusion between Grandmama Frump and Granny Frump in the Charles Addams-created universe dates back even before the 1960s series. Initially, Charles Addams referred to Gomez’s mother as both Granny Frump and Grandmama. However, when the sitcom’s family adopted Addams’ surname, it was decided that Gomez’s mother would be known as Grandmama Addams.
