Volkswagen and Uber are planning a long-term strategic collaboration to introduce self-driving, electric ID. Buzz AD cars onto Uber’s service, starting in Los Angeles, as early as late 2025. The aim is to start testing these vehicles by the end of 2025, with commercial operations anticipated for 2026.
Initially supervised by safety drivers, the ID. Buzz AD – a collaboration between Volkswagen’s autonomous mobility division, ADMT, and MOIA – will be deployed. The goal is to eventually extend this partnership into numerous U.S. cities throughout the next ten years, resulting in the release of thousands of self-driving ride-hailing vehicles.
This initiative represents a significant step forward for both companies as they aim to expand cutting-edge transportation options. MOIA is responsible for providing the integrated autonomous driving technology, while Volkswagen utilizes its large-scale manufacturing skills to fulfill future requirements.
Volkswagen isn’t just about building cars; we’re working to define the future of transportation,” stated Christian Senger, CEO of Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility. Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s CEO, also commented, “This partnership is a major step forward in the development of autonomous transport solutions.
