Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2025: Full list of this year’s historic inductees

As a devoted music enthusiast, I’ve been pondering about the impact of fan votes on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To my surprise, it seems that the class of 2025 won’t include two of this year’s top three vote-getters – Phish and Billy Idol. It looks like they’ll have to wait another year for their well-deserved recognition. However, I’m thrilled to note that out of the last four in fan balloting, two are set to be inducted!

It seems that most of the musicians selected for induction are deserving, with one possible exception being Outkast. While they are undoubtedly talented, some question whether they fit perfectly within the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s traditional definition, as Noel Gallagher recently argued that the Hall doesn’t always prioritize rock and roll first.

Gallagher believes he doesn’t deserve to be in the hip-hop hall of fame. So, it might not make sense for a rap artist to feel they belong in a rock hall either. The same thinking could apply to country artists like Dolly Parton, who didn’t think she was worthy of her 2022 induction and responded by releasing a rock album instead.

A pleasing aspect is that three of this year’s inductees are musical groups who play a slightly more aggressive style within their genre. Regrettably, no heavy metal performers have been inducted, and it remains unfair that bands such as Motörhead have yet to be recognized. However, it’s reassuring that the 2025 list does not consist solely of pop artists.

The 2025 inductees in the performer category include:

  • Bad Company
  • Chubby Checker
  • Joe Cocker
  • Cyndi Lauper
  • Outkast
  • Soundgarden
  • The White Stripes

2025 Musical Influence Award:

  • Salt-N-Pepa
  • Warren Zevon

2025 Musical Excellence Award:

  • Thom Bell
  • Nicky Hopkins
  • Carol Kaye

Ahmet Ertegun Award (Non-Performer lifetime achievement award):

  • Lenny Waronker

On November 8th, a special event celebrating the class will occur at the Peacock Theather in Los Angeles, California. This occasion will be streamed live on Disney+, while those who missed it can catch up on Hulu on November 9th. At an undisclosed future date, ABC will broadcast the ceremony.

Fans of Phish and Billy Idol have little reason to worry. It’s quite likely that both artists could be nominated for an award next year. At the very least, Billy Idol merits such recognition.
