Why Costao’s Nawazuddin Siddiqui feels Bollywood has ‘creative poverty’? Actor reveals reason behind Anurag Kashyap quitting industry

As an ardent admirer of the silver screen, I can’t help but feel a pang of worry when I see the Hindi film industry grappling with the repercussions of repeated flops at the box office and a reliance on tired, predictable narratives. Recently, during a heart-to-heart chat, Nawazuddin Siddiqui voiced his dismay over the industry’s creative drought, labeling it as “poverty.”

In the same conversation, he shed light on the real cause behind Anurag Kashyap‘s departure from our beloved Hindi film industry. It seems that the very culture that stifles creativity was the driving force behind his exit. This revelation only serves to underscore my concerns and reinforces the need for a change, a revolution if you will, in our cherished film world.

During a recent chat, Nawazuddin Siddiqui voiced his concern that the Hindi movie business has been favoring predictable film concepts rather than fresh ideas over the last half decade, as discussed with Puja Talwar.

It’s said that he labeled the expanding sequence of follow-ups as “unimpressive” and traced this development back to heightened anxiety within the field. In his opinion, movie creators often cling to a proven formula, reusing it excessively rather than venturing into new creative territories.

Siddiqui introduced the term “creative drought” to emphasize the alarmingly low level of originality in the movie business. By likening this condition to financial bankruptcy, he pointed out that the industry is grappling with a comparable predicament regarding creativity, characterizing it as an extreme scarcity of innovative ideas.

In a straightforward manner, the performer from Gangs of Wasseypur openly criticized certain figures in the movie business, accusing them of plagiarism, specifically for copying ideas from South Indian films. Using the term “thieves,” he expressed doubt about their ability to show originality.

He noted that some scenes aren’t original, they’ve been borrowed not just from local movies but also iconic films and popular classics. In his opinion, plagiarism has become so commonplace that it’s no longer considered a significant concern.

Actor Costao brought attention to an alarming custom within the Hindi movie business, where producers were giving out movie videos and asking others to merely duplicate the work.

He wondered about the kind of outcomes one might see from an industry functioning in this way, noting that such behaviors tend to attract people with similar views within the field.

Besides discussing Anurag Kashyap’s departure, Nawazuddin pointed out that the culture which suppresses creativity might have been the reason behind Kashyap leaving. He underscored that individuals with extraordinary talent like Kashyap are often compelled to part ways due to the current industry climate.
