NBC Bets on Windy City First Responders as It Renews Three ‘Chicago’ Shows

NBC will keep loading its Wednesday primetime lineup full of first responders from the Windy City.

The network has announced that it will air fresh seasons for the series Chicago Med, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Fire, which all fall under its “OneChicago” brand. Currently in its tenth season, Chicago Med is next up, followed by Chicago P.D. in its twelfth season, and finally Chicago Fire in its thirteenth season. NBC boasts that this drama franchise is the most-watched on television when viewing figures from Live + 7 Day are taken into account.

According to NBC reports, the current seasons of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. have amassed close to 46 million viewers collectively so far this season, across both NBC and Peacock. This is significant because each of the Chicago series has experienced a rise in viewership on NBCUniversal’s streaming platform, Peacock, compared to the previous season. Conversely, traditional broadcast viewership hasn’t seen the same growth. The three-way crossover episode on January 29, 2025, under the hashtag #OneChicago, was the most-viewed episode for each show during this season.

8 PM features the show “Med,” which is executive-produced by Dick Wolf, Allen MacDonald, Stephen Hootstein, and Peter Jankowski. At 9 PM, you’ll find “Fire” on air, also executive-produced by Wolf, Jankowski, Andrea Newman, Reza Tabrizi, and Matt Whitney. Lastly, at 10 PM, tune in for “P.D.,” which is executive-produced by Dick Wolf, Jankowski, Gwen Sigan, Chad Saxton, Gavin Harris, and Jason Beghe.

The TV series, produced by Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, share the same fictional universe and recently had a three-way crossover event this season. The Chicago-based shows lead NBC’s Wednesday programming schedule, with other Wolf productions filling out parts of their overall lineup. Notably, Law & Order has yet to receive an official renewal from NBC.

The pickups arrive a week prior to when NBC will showcase their fresh and recurring shows during their yearly upfront event at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
