Met Gala Co-Chairs’ Stunning Looks: A$AP Rocky, Pharrell & More

As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: This year, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams were chosen as co-chairs for the Met Gala, joining forces with Anna Wintour from Vogue. The theme was “Tailored for You,” and each of them put their personal touch on the dress code. Unfortunately, LeBron James, another honorary chair, had to miss out due to a knee injury.

This year’s Met Gala was themed around the latest spring exhibition at the Costume Institute, titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The theme delved into the significance of fashion and sartorial elegance in African-American culture from the 18th century to the present day, viewed through the lens of dandyism.

On Monday, Domingo appeared in two different outfits at the 2021 Met Gala. Initially, he wore a long, blue Valentino cape, but then took it off to unveil a black-and-white suit underneath. Hamilton, who attended with Domingo and Wintour, chose an all-white ensemble designed by Wales Bonner and completed the look with a beret. As the F1 champion explained to Vogue, he had arranged a table at the event specifically to showcase Black designers, which sparked conversations with Anna Wintour about potential future collaborations and the evolution of the Met Gala based on this year’s theme.

A$AP Rocky, preceding his partner Rihanna (expecting their third child), made an entrance wearing a custom-designed black suit that he himself had created.

As a proud representative of Harlem, I shared with The Hollywood Reporter that I initially thought it was a joke when Anna Wintour asked me to co-chair. However, once I realized she was earnest, I was overjoyed! She suggested I wear a Black designer, so I decided to showcase my own creations – yes, you’re looking at the work of this very man here.

Moreover, as the current Men’s Creative Director at Louis Vuitton, Williams showcased a stunning double-breasted jacket of his own design, adorned with approximately 15,000 pearls, painstakingly assembled over a period of 400 hours.

He mentioned that the theme for tonight is all about appreciating the stunning color black – a favorite among many for glasses, shoes, cars, plans, devices, and more. However, he emphasized that we’re not just celebrating black objects, but rather the people themselves. When people dress up with style and elegance, it’s truly amazing. He referred to this as a uniquely American spirit.
