Beware: Here comes a spoiler for Episode 17 of ‘The Rookie’s’ seventh season titled “Mutiny and the Bounty.” You can watch it right now if you have a Hulu subscription.
As we approach the Season 7 finale of “The Rookie,” set for 2025 television schedules, the second to last episode delivered a thrilling mix of action and comedic scenes. The character Flula Borg reappeared as Skip Tracer Randy, who expressed his affection towards Meg DeLacy’s Chastity, the stripper girlfriend of Pete Davidson’s character Pete Nolan. This installment brought back fond memories of John’s half-brother, and the creator graciously provided an update on his possible comeback.
As a die-hard film fan, I’ve been eagerly following the story of the SNL alum who debuted as Pete Nolan in Season 2. He graced our screens in two episodes during Season 4, but since then, he’s been absent. Over the past couple of seasons, there have been whispers and speculation, but no sign of him. However, in Tuesday’s episode, Chastity hinted that Pete was still around, but his flight to LA was apparently grounded due to him being on a no-fly list. So, it seems he had to take the bus instead. Alexi Hawley, the show’s producer, mentioned that tracking down real-life Pete is like finding a needle in a haystack, but they haven’t given up trying!
We’re eagerly hoping Pete Davidson will return, as he truly enjoys being part of the show. His representatives have contacted us regarding his potential participation, but pinning down a suitable schedule is challenging due to his high level of activity.
It’s understandable that a well-structured schedule hasn’t been achieved due to Davidson’s commitments to scripted projects alongside his stand-up career. However, he appears keen on rejoining the show, and it seems Hawley & Co. are eager to have him back.
The issue lies in finding the right moment and having sufficient free time to shoot a couple of episodes, as it’s challenging to find enough hours even if he’d only be on set for a while. Fortunately, with The Rookie being renewed for Season 8, Hawley is determined and stated:
In Season 8, it’d be wonderful if Pete returns; it would certainly be delightful. However, for tonight’s show, Flula is simply an unstoppable natural phenomenon and watching him is pure enjoyment. He’s not exactly a chaos agent, but he does add a touch of excitement to the mix.
Despite the latest episode featuring some developments regarding Pete, it would be delightful to see him return, however brief the appearance might be. Whether Davidson will rejoin The Rookie in the future is uncertain, but it seems that both parties are keen on working together again.
Currently, Davidson has several ongoing projects, in addition, he continues to manage his ferry with Colin Jost – a detail Jost humorously addressed during one of his rare non-Weekend Update performances on SNL. Furthermore, he’s been focusing on his sobriety and tattoo removal, and appears to be thriving in these efforts.
It’s uncertain if Pete Davidson will rejoin The Rookie in the future, but fans still have much to anticipate in the Season 7 finale and beyond. The season finale is set to air on Tuesday, May 13 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
