Sonequa Martin-Green Boards CBS’ ‘Boston Blue’

CBS has found the second star for its upcoming drama Boston Blue.

Actress Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast in a leading role for the spinoff of Blue Bloods, teaming up with Donnie Wahlberg, who will reprise his character Danny Reagan from the original series that concluded in December 2024. Known for her role in Star Trek: Discovery, Martin-Green will portray Lena Peters, a Boston police detective partnered with Danny as he transitions to a new city. Similar to Danny, Lena is the eldest member of a well-known law enforcement family.

In February, CBS commissioned a new television series titled “Boston Blue“, describing it as an expansion of the universe of “Blue Bloods“. Although it shares the same world as its predecessor, the creative team behind it is fresh: Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (known for their work on “The Blacklist” and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit“) will take charge as showrunners and executive producers. Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Wahlberg, who were not part of the original series’ production team, will also be involved in this new project.

Among the four new dramatic series slated for CBS in 2025-26 are “Boston Blue”, a companion to “FBI” focusing on the CIA, “Fire Country” spinoff “Sheriff Country”, and “Y: Marshals”, a spinoff of “Yellowstone” starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton.

Apart from “Star Trek: Discovery,” Sonequa Martin-Green was a consistent cast member on “The Walking Dead” for multiple seasons. Additionally, she has had recurring roles in shows like “Once Upon a Time” and “The Good Wife.” She also starred in the movie titled “My Dead Friend Zoe.
