Gangs of Wasseypur Reigns Supreme: Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Top-Rated OTT Film Revealed

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’ve had the pleasure of observing the illustrious career of the National Award-winning actor, Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Over the years, he has captivated audiences with his exceptional performances in an extensive filmography. Intrigued by his work, we recently conducted a poll amongst cinema enthusiasts to discover their favorite movie starring this talented actor. To no one’s surprise, the gritty cult classic, Gangs of Wasseypur, emerged as the clear winner! If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend giving it a watch!

Recently, we invited cinephiles to cast their votes for the movie they believed showcased Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s exceptional performance best. The choices offered were Gangs of Wasseypur, Raman Raghav 2.0, Badlapur, Haddi, and Motichoor Chaknachoor. Interestingly, the two-part epic black comedy crime film directed by Anurag Kashyap garnered a unanimous vote (100%) from our voters.

Let me jog your recollection: The initial installment of the film premiered in June 2012, followed by the second part arriving in August of the same year. Over time, this film has earned the title of a cult classic, with viewers appreciating its compelling narrative, acting prowess, and gritty, authentic production. Besides Siddiqui, notable actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadda, Jaideep Ahlawat, Huma Qureshi, and Tigmanshu Dhulia delivered standout performances in this R-rated movie.

In a popular film, the story unfolds about the criminal coal syndicate (powerful cliques in Dhanbad) and the intense power struggles among three crime families. Notably, Nawazuddin’s performance as Faizal Khan garnered widespread acclaim, earning him special recognition at the 60th National Film Awards.

Previously, during an interaction with Mid-Day, I shared some insights about speculations regarding a potential third installment of the legendary film. I clarified that renowned director Anurag Kashyap would not be involved in this project, and neither would I be reprising my role. Interestingly, I often encounter such proposals, with some even proposing a movie exclusively centered around my character.

In terms of his career, Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently portrayed Costao Fernandes, a customs officer from Goa, in the crime drama movie titled “Costao”. This Sejal Shah production premiered on May 1, 2025, on the streaming platform Zee5.
