In the latest action-packed thriller from Lionsgate titled “Shadow Force“, the filmmakers skillfully intertwine the heartfelt nuances of a family saga with the exhilarating rides typical of the genre. What truly sets this movie apart, however, is its exceptional cast, headed by Kerry Washington and Omar Sy, who flawlessly lead an illustrious group of actors. Directed by Joe Carnahan, the film’s co-writer Leon Chills, the narrative focuses on two highly skilled operatives who find themselves caught in a forbidden romance within their organization.
Kyrah Owens and Isaac Sarr part ways from Shadow Force, leading to a temporary split despite their shared son, Ky (Jahleel Kamara). Their on-screen reunion doesn’t signify they are clear of the agents pursuing them or the animosities that have built up between them due to their past separation. The action-packed thriller features Mark Strong as Jack Cinder, Da’Vine Joy Randolph as Auntie, Method Man as Unc, Ed Quinn as Parker, Marvin Jones III (also known as Krondon) as Cysgod, and many more talented stars.
At the premiere of Shadow Force, ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley had engaging conversations with several cast and crew members about the film’s remarkable transformation from script to reality. Washington commended her fellow actor Omar Sy, Randolph expressed her eagerness for action sequences, and Jones touched upon the possibility of his role as Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse transitioning into live-action.

Kerry Washington Took An Unusual Route To Recruit Omar Sy Into Shadow Force
“I Had My Husband’s Permission To Slide Into Omar’s DMs”
ScreenRant: Kerry, it’s been mentioned that you managed to include Omar Sy in this movie by reaching out to him privately on social media.
Kerry Washington: My husband gave me the go-ahead to reach out to Omar privately on social media. He was thrilled about Omar taking on this role, and I didn’t want to follow the conventional agent path. So, I took matters into my own hands and sent a message. After that, I nervously waited by my phone, just like a teenager does. Eventually, he responded and said, “I’ll take a look at it.” I was overjoyed and asked him how we could keep in touch. Then we started exchanging emails.
I’m overjoyed that he agreed, as his affirmative response elevated the entire movie experience. It transformed the film into a universally relatable tale about a black family whose love transcends racial, linguistic, and cultural barriers, uniting them in their shared struggle for one another. Thus, I can hardly contain my excitement over his decision.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph & Omar Sy Break Down Their Shadow Force Roles
“The Movie Was So Special That It Couldn’t Be Done A Normal Way”
ScreenRant: Could you share some details about how you ended up in Kerry Washington’s film after she reached out to you via a DM, and if there was any moment of disbelief when you realized it was indeed the famous actress communicating with you?
At first, I thought, “Could this truly be her?” It was important to ensure it wasn’t a joke, and indeed, it turned out to be her in the end.
Let me emphasize that this film stands out in an extraordinary manner. It’s not like other movies because its exceptional quality transcends conventional methods of promotion. What follows is a journey aimed at fostering a unique bond between us, a relationship where we can communicate openly and directly. This connection, this dialogue, was truly remarkable, making the experience enjoyable overall.
The part of Auntie seemed tailor-made for you, and following your agreement to take it on, you expressed a desire to perform your own stunts as well. Can you discuss your motivation behind wanting to handle the action scenes?
Da’Vine Joy Randolph: Joe was fine with it, but he strongly expressed his desire to make something special for me. When I inquired about his ideas, he said, “I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Over time, we aimed at creating something genuine and relatable, and at the same time, offering a fresh perspective that deviates slightly from the norm.
Krondon Reveals His Favorite Shadow Force Action Sequence
The Tombstone Voice Actor Also Addresses Live-Action MCU Possibilities
Could you share some details about your character and the exhilarating action sequences you’re involved in, as portrayed in Shadow Force – a story where our protagonists bend the rules at their workplace and eventually find themselves leaving?
Marvin Jones III: There’s a lot of firing heavy-duty firearms, which I hadn’t handled before, and we frequently perform this action. There are constant explosions too. As for the finale, there’s an astonishingly cool scene using cinematic tricks that you won’t want to miss. Kudos to Joe Carnahan for making it happen. It’s truly exciting! In essence, yes, it is awesome.
As I reflect back, it’s the boat scene from the movie that stands out the most vividly. That boat sequence was quite remarkable. Indeed, you could see real boats racing on the water, and all the action felt incredibly authentic. There wasn’t any CGI in this film; instead, everything was filmed on location. All the stunts and explosions were performed live at actual speed, which made it even more exhilarating. With numerous unexpected events and multiple explosions that needed to be re-shot, it was truly awe-inspiring.
MovieWeb: Your performance as Tombstone in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was fantastic! Have you ever thought about taking on this character in a live-action setting?
Marvin Jones III: Indeed, I might. There have been discussions about this topic. Unfortunately, I cannot reveal any details at the moment, but yes, I am considering it. That realm over there, friend, is a mystery to you now and any comments would be premature. Therefore, it’s something I am very interested in exploring.
Over the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to both the DC and Marvel universes, and I must say, Marvel has been exceptional in their treatment of me. Therefore, if there’s anything they ask me to take on, I’m more than willing to oblige.
