The Fox network is rapidly becoming the top destination for humorous animated series on traditional TV, with three additional ones now officially greenlit following recent major renewals.
Based on recent updates, Fox has refreshed several animated series: Grimsburg, Universal Basic Guys, and others including American Dad! This announcement comes after the network granted four-season extensions for their long-standing animated shows. Notably, American Dad! is coming back to Fox following its stint on TBS. However, it initially aired its first nine seasons on Fox.
The animated series Krapopolis, now in its second season, wraps up this month. This inventive show, conceived by Dan Harmon (known for his work on Community), offers a humorous take on ancient Greek mythology where gods and mythical beings intermingle with humans. The series was earlier renewed for seasons 3 and 4, and the recent renewal by Fox ensures a fifth season as well. Debuting in September 2023, Krapopolis boasts the vocal talents of Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, and Matt Berry. Despite a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 56%, its audience score stands at 66%.
Beginning in January 2024, the animated series known as Grimsburg made its debut and has now been extended for Season 3. In this series, Jon Hamm lends his voice to a detective seeking redemption upon his return to the enigmatic town of Grimsburg. Alongside Hamm are Erinn Hayes, Rachel Dratch, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Greg Chun in starring roles. Hamm additionally serves as an executive producer. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show holds a 63% approval rating from critics and a 74% audience score.
Initially, Fox had confidence in the series “Universal Basic Guys”, granting it a two-season run even before its premiere. Interestingly, the announcement for Season 3 has been made prior to the airing of Season 2. The narrative revolves around two brothers, Mark and Hank (played by Adam Malamut), who strive to survive with the $3,000 they receive each month after their jobs are automated. Other voice actors include Talia Genevieve, Fred Armisen, and Ally Maki. Despite a low critical rating of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, the audience score is impressively high at 74%.
One Animated Fox Show Remains on the Bubble
While many shows received renewals, fans of “The Great North” might feel apprehensive. This animated series on Fox is the only one still hanging in the balance following the renewals of “Krapopolis”, “Grimsburg”, and “Universal Basic Guys”. Its fifth season premiered in December 2024, but there’s uncertainty about whether it will be renewed again. It could be interpreted as a negative sign that it wasn’t included in the recent wave of renewals.
In simpler terms, “The Great North” is a TV series where Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, and Will Forte lend their voices. The story unfolds in Alaska, focusing on a fisherman (played by Offerman) who’s also a divorced father of four, striving to maintain family unity. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has garnered an impressive audience rating of 85%.
