Among the captivating Spider-Man endeavors being worked on lately is the Spider-Noir television show. This project is inspired by a version of the spider hero conceived by David Hine, Fabrice Sapolsky, Carmine Di Giandomenico, and Marko Djurdjević, and Spider-Man Noir has always been an intriguing idea due to its reimagining of Peter Parker and some of his key allies and adversaries in a 1930s New York setting that’s filled with grit. Notably, Nicolas Cage is set to bring this character to life on screen, but he has kept quiet about the upcoming series.
During a chat with ScreenRant, the actor evaded giving details when questioned about the upcoming series. Just like many other Marvel productions, actors tend to be secretive about sharing any insights into the project, much like Cage might put on his cloak of discretion.
The production team has enclosed me in what can only be described as a five-inch acrylic barrier of secrecy, preventing me from discussing anything related to the project. It’s quite unusual, as they are maintaining an extremely tight lid on information.
As a follower, I’ve been keeping tabs on the production of “Spider-Noir,” which was filmed in Los Angeles from August 2024 to March 2025. A slew of set photos have surfaced online, offering glimpses into this intriguing new series that seems to be a fresh take on an older version of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Notably, “Spider-Noir” marks Sony’s first Spider-Man project since the 2024 release of “Kraven the Hunter.
‘Spider-Noir’ Could Be an Exciting New Entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe
It appears that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) has hit a roadblock, with movies like Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web not meeting expectations in terms of both critical acclaim and box office performance. Despite the success of Jon Watts’ Spider-Man trilogy in collaboration with Marvel Studios, the studio hasn’t had the same level of success when it comes to creating standalone franchises for other Spider-Man characters. The only exception to this trend has been Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy, which has made money but received negative reviews from critics.
Currently, the producers Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller are working on their initial live-action “Spider-Man” series, titled “Spider-Noir”. This series will debut on MGM+’s streaming platform, marking Sony’s first live-action project featuring a Spider-Man character that has been independent of Marvel Studios for quite some time. Since the “Spider-Verse” films have done well for Sony, it will be intriguing to see how “Spider-Noir” is received critically by all involved parties.
The fact that Nicolas Cage is involved in this project is sure to be its main draw, as he demonstrated his talent when he voiced Spider-Man Noir in the initial Spider-Verse movie. The plot summary for the series introduces Cage’s character as an older private investigator who was once the sole superhero of New York City, grappling with his past life. It remains to be seen when more information about the show will surface, as no specific release date has been set for the eight-episode season yet.
