Meet actor who started as ‘terrible’ AD, was rejected for looks but went on to work with Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and later made an impressive…

Today’s spotlight is on a talented actor, Arjun Kapoor, who happens to be part of the illustrious Kapoor film family. Despite initial rejections due to his appearance, he later collaborated with stars like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. Arjun Kapoor, son of esteemed director Boney Kapoor and Mona Kapoor, is who we’re referring to.

Initially, Arjun began his professional journey as an Assistant Director (AD) in movies such as Kal Ho Naa Ho and Salaam-e-Ishq. In a past conversation with The Bollywood Film Club, Arjun humbly admitted that when he first started, he was not very good at the role; in fact, he was quite awful, reminiscing about his time working alongside Nikkil Advani on those projects.

He found comfort in knowing that he could make mistakes without fearing severe repercussions or long-term implications.

As a devoted admirer looking back, it’s fascinating to recall that before stepping into the world of acting, I (Arjun) was turned down due to my appearance by Aditya Chopra himself. However, he later recognized my on-screen charisma and gave me my big break in Ishaqzaade in 2012.

Aditya Chopra initially expressed doubt about me becoming an actor, stating that he might consider me for a supporting role instead, not a leading one. This sentiment was conveyed to Bollywood Hungama in the past.

Nevertheless, the casting director at YRF, Shanoo Sharma, honed his skills and helped him become a more capable actor. Initially, it was only after viewing the raw version of Chopra’s audition tape – where he was seen joking around – that he caught his eye.

Arjun reminisced, “He once mentioned, ‘There’s some color in it.’ He isn’t limited to a single skillset; he’s multifaceted, and that’s how I landed my first movie.

His first movie was succeeded by films such as Ki & Ka, 2 States, Gunday, Half Girlfriend, Mubarakan, and others. Yet, his career took a downturn after films such as The Lady Killer, Ek Villain Returns, Kuttey, and additional ones failed to impress at the box office.

After some time had passed, Arjun returned to prominence in the previous year with the film Singham Again, where he left a lasting impact on viewers with his portrayal of the villain, Danger Lanka. Moving forward, the actor will entertain fans once more by showcasing his humorous side in No Entry 2.
