Navya Nanda, the granddaughter of Jaya Bachchan, shares that her grandmother and mother, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, have imparted to her the delicate art of blending strength with vulnerability. “My mom and Nani,” she says, “have never hesitated to be true to themselves, exuding a confidence and boldness that I aspire to embody myself as I grow.
Although she hails from a family known for Bollywood stardom, comprising of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Navya has made it clear that she doesn’t aspire to follow in their footsteps as an actress. In her own words, “I never wanted to join the film industry; I wanted to become an entrepreneur.” Growing up in Delhi, her early years were filled with listening to her father discuss business, particularly tractors, which sparked her interest from a young age.
When questioned about whether she feels the pressure of upholding her maternal family’s legacy, the entrepreneur responded that neither her origin nor identity will ever be a burden. Instead, it has filled her with immense pride to be connected to where she belongs. “I wear each piece of it as a badge of pride, and above all, responsibility,” she said to the press, explaining that everything she does is aimed at making her family proud.
As Navya persists in pursuing her dream of becoming an entrepreneur, her sibling Agastya Nanda chose to tread the path taken by their grandparents and entered the world of acting. He launched his acting career with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies, where he shared the screen with Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, among others.
