The superhero genre remains incredibly popular, and even the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) faces challenges from the newly established DC. Created by co-CEO James Gunn, the initial lineup of projects is titled “Gods and Monsters” and will make its debut on the big screen this summer with a new take on Superman. The lead role in Superman is played by David Corenswet, who has shared the heartwarming tale behind his portrayal of Clark Kent.
Our understanding of Superman is somewhat restricted, yet excitement for the enigmatic project is mounting due to James Gunn’s past success with superhero films such as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad. In an interview with The Associated Press, actor Corenswet discussed the upcoming DC movie, sharing that he drew inspiration from his brother-in-law. Remarkably, despite standing at 6’8 and weighing 270 lbs, he described him as the “quietest, most wonderful man.” As Corenswet explained:
There, I adopted a sense of humility similar to Clark. Despite his large persona, he is striving to minimize himself and whisper rather than make noise.
Instead of adopting an alter ego for crime-fighting, Superman uses his real identity, Clark Kent, in disguise. Corenswet carefully considered how a character with divine powers might attempt to blend in. As a result, his portrayal of the Daily Bugle reporter was born.

As a devoted DC fan, it’s always been amusing to me how characters like Clark Kent and Superman manage to keep their identities hidden from the public. While Clark dons those iconic glasses, the real magic lies in the actors portraying them convincingly as distinct individuals. In my case, when I took on the role of Superman, I deliberately tried to shrink myself both physically and emotionally, drawing inspiration from my brother-in-law’s tender demeanor.
Fans of DC will recall Christopher Reeves’ remarkable portrayal of Superman/Clark in his “Superman” films. Much like Corenswet, this late actor aimed to diminish himself through adopting poor posture and minimal eye contact. It was this approach that made the scene where Clark unveiled his identity to Lois so poignant. Here’s a look at it: [Link to the video]
As soon as Clark is wounded, his physique transforms, revealing Reeves’ portrayal of the muscular and powerful Man of Steel. This exceptional acting provides a coherent explanation for the dual life of the hero. It remains to be seen if Corenswet will have an opportunity to undergo a similar character transformation in the upcoming Superman movie.
On July 11th, 2025, when Superman graces the cinemas, all secrets will unfold. This will mark the beginning of the new shared universe’s journey on the silver screen, with many more chapters to follow.
