Following the conclusion of Disney+’s Andor, its creator, Tony Gilroy, has shed light on the absence of certain characters in season two, explaining their reasons for not appearing.
In a revealing sit-down with The Hollywood Reporter, I was privy to some intriguing insights about the last three episodes of the series. Naturally, curiosity piqued when the interviewer brought up the enigmatic character Kino Loy, played by Andy Serkis, who sparked a prison rebellion among the Narkina 5, and the mysterious absence of Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) sister Kerri. I couldn’t help but wonder about these intriguing plot points as well!
Andy ended the performance by dropping the microphone, as Gilroy pointed out. I wondered how I could possibly top that act. Dropping the mic merely diminished the impact. Many people had been discussing if we could somehow bring him back, but I didn’t want to create an accidental atmosphere around it.
As I plunged into the water following our daring escape from the floating island prison, Loy’s voice echoed in my ears, “I can’t swim.” The scene that followed was a whirlpool of chaos as other prisoners joined us, and I lost sight of him amidst the struggle. His fate remains a mystery to this day, still haunting me in the gaming world.
Regarding Cassian’s sibling, the initial season of the show introduces her as the one he was searching for on Morlana One. This search eventually led to him eliminating two Imperial Security Bureau agents, triggering the series’ events. She appears in a sequence of flashbacks scattered across the first season.
As a fan, I can relate to Kino Loy being like my long-lost sister. Just as I yearn to unravel her mysteries, so does Gilroy hint at the resolution of our shared sibling. In the beginning, she’s more intriguing to me as an empty space rather than a presence. She holds greater value for Cassian in her absence, serving as a void that drives him. As he admits towards the end, ‘Perhaps I should stop saving people.’ His constant urge to rescue and play the savior stems from this gaping hole in his life, and I found it captivating not to fill that space.
In the comprehensive discussion with Gilroy, he delves into various topics including the enigmatic fate of Dedra, the unexpected pregnancy of Bix, and a character whose ending remained ambiguous – Mon Mothma’s offspring. To fully grasp these points, it is advisable to peruse the entire interview.
Andor is now streaming all episodes on Disney+. Read THR’s season coverage.
