Square Enix Teases Kingdom Hearts 4 With New Images — Is a Trailer Coming Soon?

Square Enix has unexpectedly shared some fresh glimpses and an incremental update on the progress of Kingdom Hearts 4, leaving us more than thrilled! (Hint: Our excitement levels are sky-high!)

It seems quite clear: a trailer may be arriving shortly. Some might call it wishful thinking or something less optimistic, but it’s been three years since we last saw Sora stirring in what appeared to be a contemporary environment. Since then, Square Enix has been completely tight-lipped about the project.

The unexpected scrapping of Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link disappointed some mobile game enthusiasts, but others found solace knowing that the undivided attention and resources might now be directed towards the much-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4. Some even speculated that axing Missing Link was Square’s strategy to intensify marketing for KH4, and it appears their prediction is materializing.

Today, Square Enix unveiled a fresh set of images and showcased content that’s been kept under wraps for three years. Sora has matured quite a bit, and he bears an uncanny resemblance to a character from Final Fantasy. The new screenshots no longer feature the oversized shoes or the over-the-top spiky hair we’re used to. In addition, there was a sneak peek of Mickey Mouse as a playable character, which is quite exciting news in the realm of Kingdom Hearts.

It’s possible that a sneak peek at a new trailer might be unveiled during this year’s Summer Game Fest, which is scheduled for June 6th. However, I want to make it clear that this isn’t based on any leaks or rumors, but rather my own optimism. Think of this as a note I’ll revisit once my prediction materializes in the coming months. For now, we’re left with anticipation. If everything goes well, we could be treated to a new trailer filled with details about Kingdom Hearts 4 and perhaps a clearer understanding of the screenshots that have already been released.

In the least favorable scenario, we might not see another trailer until The Game Awards in late 2021; however, there’s a small chance Square Enix could host a Kingdom Hearts Direct-style event, similar to what Nintendo and Sony do for their games. If that happens, I’m ready and waiting.

Awaiting the arrival of a fresh Kingdom Hearts game has never been a straightforward process. On occasion, the final product may fall short of anticipations (Kingdom Hearts III, I’m referring to you, though without bias; I myself enjoyed every second of it).

Regarding Kingdom Hearts 4, there’s a strong possibility we might see a trailer coming up soon. Despite being a fan for over two decades, I’ve become accustomed to keeping my anticipation in check. Yet, the prospect of feeling that familiar excitement once more is always thrilling. Kingdom Hearts has re-entered our focus, and just knowing that makes it something to cling to.
