Smokey Robinson Under Criminal Investigation After Sexual Assault Allegations

Smokey Robinson faces a criminal probe over allegations of sexual misconduct, initiated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

On Thursday, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Unit confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that they are currently probing accusations of criminal activity against William ‘Smokey’ Robinson. The investigation is still in its initial phases, and they have no additional comments at this time.

In light of the ongoing investigation, Christopher Frost, attorney for Robinson, stated in a release, “We’ve noticed that a police report has been submitted by the defendants in their civil case. It seems evident to us what is transpiring here. The plaintiffs filed this police report following their initiation of a $50 million lawsuit. This action simply indicates that the police are now obliged to conduct an investigation.

We’re glad the investigation’s ongoing, especially since it targets anonymous Plaintiffs. Unveiling the truth always carries weight. We trust that it will become clear Mr. Robinson is innocent, and this legal action is simply an attempt to sway public sentiment and escalate the media frenzy. In the end, the facts will show this lawsuit is fabricated, designed solely to harm the reputations of Smokey and Frances Robinson, driven by nothing but greed.

The probe was conducted over a week since the renowned Motown artist and music producer faced a lawsuit from four female employees, who served as housekeepers, alleging sexual assault and rape.

In the lawsuit, an unidentified woman alleges that Robinson committed rape against her on multiple occasions, with the majority of incidents taking place at his house in Chatsworth, California. The charges filed include negligence, sexual harassment, assault, kidnapping, and creating a hostile work environment, among other offenses.

In the lawsuit, not only was Robinson himself implicated, but his wife, Frances Robinson, was also included as a defendant. The plaintiff women alleged that Mrs. Robinson neglected to take the necessary steps to halt Defendant Robinson’s inappropriate behavior.

Robinson has refuted the accusations, labeling them as “malicious” and “unfounded.” Previously, Frost stated that “the facts will prove this is just a malicious attempt to extort money from an 85-year-old American icon – specifically $50 million dollars.
