Lionsgate‘s The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has found its President Snow.
In an exclusive report by The Hollywood Reporter, it has been revealed that Ralph Fiennes is set to portray the merciless ruler of Panem in director Francis Lawrence’s upcoming film within the franchise, titled “The Hunger Games“. Previously announced cast members for this movie, which is based on Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel, include Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, and Ben Wang.
As a devoted fan, I find myself stepping into the shoes once worn by the esteemed Donald Sutherland, who brought Coriolanus Snow to life in the initial four films of the captivating series that began with “The Hunger Games” gracing our movie screens in 2012. In a fascinating twist, I had the privilege of portraying a younger incarnation of this iconic character alongside Rachel Zegler in the prequel film “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” which was released in 2023.
Stepping into the theater on November 20, 2026, I find myself immersed in “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”. Francis Lawrence, my trusted guide, leads us through Billy Ray’s captivating script based on Suzanne Collins’ novel. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, masters of Color Force, produce this cinematic journey, while Cameron MacConomy skillfully oversees it all as executive producer. The anticipation is building!
Jacobson expressed his desire to pay tribute to Donald Sutherland by casting one of today’s most renowned actors as President Snow, 24 years prior to Katniss Everdeen’s arena entry. He has always dreamt of collaborating with Ralph Fiennes, who left an indelible mark on him through his chilling performance in Schindler’s List. It’s truly exciting to have him join the Hunger Games cast.
Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien are in charge of “Sunrise on the Reaping” at Lionsgate, with Phil Strina managing the deal for the studio.
Readers are taken back to Panem on the morning of the 50th Hunger Games reaping, an event that occurred 24 years before the storyline in the original book “The Hunger Games,” published in 2008. The movie adaptations of the first five books have collectively earned over $3.3 billion worldwide, with Jennifer Lawrence starring as Katniss Everdeen in the first four films.
Actor Ralph Fiennes, who has been nominated for three Oscars, received his most recent Academy Award nomination for his role in the movie “Conclave” last year. Upcoming films featuring Fiennes include “The Choral,” directed by Nicholas Hytner, and “28 Years Later,” helmed by Danny Boyle. In both the U.S. and the U.K., Fiennes is represented by CAA and Sloane Offer, as well as 42MP respectively.
