Showcases some of the most awe-inspiring feats ever filmed, with Tom Cruise testing his boundaries in what could be the final installment of the action series. While Cruise undergoes extreme physical challenges in this sequel, co-star Angela Bassett reveals that she was only prepared to perform one stunt during her return to the franchise, a choice that fans can sympathize with.
When asked about “The Final Reckoning,” Bassett hinted at an exciting new “Mission: Impossible” installment. She was amazed by the awe-inspiring action sequences filmed by Cruise, praising how much effort he and his team put into making them appear realistic. “It’s just incredible,” she expressed.
Despite the death-defying feats she witnesses, Bassett prefers to keep her screen work more straightforward, eschewing the “fear of missing out” syndrome. In her own words, “Definitely not. I don’t have FOMO.” Her only stunt, she jests, is simply walking.
In the upcoming film “The Final Reckoning”, Basset reprises her role as Erika Sloane from “Fallout”. Notably, Sloane has made a significant career leap in this new blockbuster, transitioning from a CIA director in “Fallout” to becoming the U.S. President in “The Final Reckoning”. The movie delves deeper into the intricate relationship between Sloane and Cruise’s main character. According to two-time Oscar nominee Basset, the dynamic between Sloane and Hunt involves a mix of “I don’t want you doing that — do I really not want you doing that?” and “Can we work together as you’re doing that, because you’re going to do it anyway?”. Additionally, Basset commended Cruise’s dedication to the “Mission: Impossible” series, describing him as “nothing but pure enthusiasm — he just wants to bring out the best in everyone”.
The Final Reckoning Pulls Out All the Stops
Given Tom Cruise’s extraordinary efforts with his stunts for the movie “The Final Reckoning“, it’s understandable that Bassett opted to focus on more conventional physical tasks. Cruise undeniably performed the most perilous stunt of the franchise, which showcases his bravery and willingness to take risks. The esteemed actor has consistently tested limits with his Mission: Impossible stunts, as seen in earlier films where he climbed tall buildings, rode motorcycles off cliffs, and engaged in fights on a moving train.
Despite not being as highly praised as Fallout, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which has a 98% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, is still the top-rated film in the series. This latest installment picks up right where the last sequel, Dead Reckoning, ended, with Cruise’s character continuing his quest to defeat the AI antagonist known as the Entity.
In the highly anticipated movie titled “The Final Reckoning“, stars such as Cruise, Bassett, Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Esai Morales, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, Vanessa Kirby, Hannah Waddingham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Pom Klementieff, and Shea Whigham join forces. The film’s production budget is said to be a staggering $400 million.
The Final Reckoning opens in theaters on May 23.
