2005 saw the return of with Russell T Davies in charge, sparking questions about its potential success. Featuring the seasoned Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and the endearing David Tennant, it nonetheless faced challenges due to its past as a frequent target for humor.
Not only did it thrive, but it went beyond expectations. Now, several Doctors have come and gone, with Ncuti Gatwa joining as the Fifteenth Doctor marking a sort of fresh start for the series, which was labeled as Season 1. This special episode will focus on the show’s achievements since its grand return to screens in 2005 and will air following the season finale on May 31.
Many popular stars from the franchise are expected to make an appearance on the show, where they’ll each share their personal stories. Among them are Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler), Pearl Mackie (Bill Potts), Mandip Gill (Yasmin Khan), along with the current Doctor and companion duo of Ncuti Gatwa and Varada Sethu. Additionally, former showrunners Steven Moffat (who led the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors) and Chris Chibnall (responsible for the Thirteenth Doctor’s run) will also be part of the event.
In connection with the announcement, showrunner Davies made a statement saying, “Following the thrilling conclusion of the season, it’s fantastic to mark the 20 years that brought us here. I hope this is a celebration for long-time fans, featuring a constellation of actors, Doctors, companions, Billie Piper alongside David Tennant, and our very first Dalek creation!
