Chicago Fire Just Made a HUGE Mistake?! Find Out Why!

Heed this notice! In the 19th episode of Chicago Fire season 13, there’s a strong indication that NBC might be making an unwarranted closure of Firehouse 51. This popular series, known as One Chicago, has been on broadcast TV for quite some time now, and it’s no stranger to actor shuffles. Over the years, the show has experienced numerous cast changes due to diverse reasons – at times initiated by the actors themselves, other times for narrative or cost-cutting purposes. Parting ways with any character is never easy, but it’s particularly tough when they’ve been a part of the show for an extended period.

Over the past few years, both Gaffney Medical and Intelligence, as well as Firehouse 51, have experienced personnel changes. However, it seems that Firehouse 51 has seen more cast shifts. Notable departures include original characters like Matt Casey and Chief Wallace Boden, along with long-term members such as Blake Gallo and Sylvie Brett. Even relatively new additions like Roman Flynn were surprisingly written off the show. As Chicago Fire season 13 nears its conclusion, it appears that Firehouse 51 is preparing to bid farewell to two more characters; however, the series suggests that this decision may be misguided.

Carver & Ritter Are Leaving Chicago Fire At The End Of Season 13

Daniel Kyri & Jake Lockett Have Both Acknowledged It

It’s been announced that Jake Lockett and Daniel Kyri will no longer be part of Chicago Fire as characters Sam Carver and Ritter. This news surfaced shortly after the 2025 One Chicago crossover, which was the first significant event for this franchise set in the Windy City. Both actors have confirmed they’ll be wrapping up their roles by the end of this year, but they haven’t shared details about how their characters will exit the show. At present, neither NBC nor Wolf Entertainment has disclosed any additional information regarding their final storylines.

Regrettably, there hasn’t been any clear indication on how their exits will unfold in the series. Given the clandestine manner in which Chicago Fire season 12 wrapped up Boden’s character, it’s plausible that the writers will maintain secrecy until they are compelled to move the narrative forward. Eamonn Walker’s long-standing Firehouse 51 chief, who had a sudden promotion, set the stage for his departure. Notably, the official synopsis for Chicago Fire season 13 finale, “It Had To End This Way,” does not hint at either Ritter or Carver’s departures.

Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 19 Sets Up The Most Interesting Firehouse 51 Stories

Firehouse 51 Needs Some Changes

In essence, Ritter and Carver play secondary roles in the series Chicago Fire, with the primary spotlight falling on Kelly Severide, portrayed by Taylor Kinney, and Stella Kidd, acted by Miranda Mayo. Given their significant influence on the show, this focus is well-deserved. Nevertheless, the characters of Lockett and Kyri are not without their own charm. Over time, their individual stories have been intricately woven into the events at Firehouse 51. Additionally, both characters have formed strong bonds with the rest of the team led by Dom Pascal.

Regardless of the way Chicago Fire portrays Carver and Ritter, their departure is a significant error, as episode 19 of season 13, titled “Birds of Prey,” demonstrates. In this installment, both characters receive intriguing storylines that could lead to engaging and captivating narratives in the future. For instance, Ritter invites Lizzy Novak to live with him. Firehouse 51 hasn’t explored a substantial roommate plot since Otis Zvonecek, Joe Cruz, and Brett shared an apartment. Developing a unique relationship between Ritter and Lizzy beyond their work environment would add depth and variety to Chicago Fire.

Next, upon Carver’s return, he collaborates with Violet Mikami on an unexpected sequel to a conversation. Over time, they have been growing as a couple, but the finale of Chicago Fire season 12 put a halt to their romance due to a misunderstanding. This tug-of-war persisted into the new year, and it was made more complicated by Carver’s personal struggles with alcohol. Following a stay in rehab, it’s heartening to see them rekindle their relationship in “Birds of Prey,” as their storyline gradually restores their bond until they finally confess their deep feelings for one another.

Chicago Fire Cannot Rely On The Same Characters Again & Again

It’s An Ensemble Show

Over the years, the cast of Chicago Fire has seen significant changes, which has led many fans to hold a special place in their hearts for long-standing characters such as Mouch McHolland, Christopher Herrmann, Kidd, and Severide. Being integral parts of the One Chicago franchise for so long, these characters have built an emotional connection with viewers, making them highly valued by devoted fans. However, it’s important to note that Chicago Fire must continue growing, and this requires introducing new elements instead of repeatedly using the same characters.

As a movie critic, I’m not suggesting we entirely replace our beloved actors from Firehouse 51 with fresh faces. Instead, it’s crucial to introduce intriguing new characters that the audience can connect with. This keeps the show vibrant and prevents the storyline from becoming too narrowly focused on a few key members. Ritter and Carver could very well be part of this dynamic new cast, and episode 19 of Chicago Fire season 13 demonstrates that they each have compelling narratives yet to unfold.

Can Chicago Fire Still Bring Back Carver And/Or Ritter After Season 13?

That Depends On How They’ll Be Written Out

Following a rather extended hiatus, NBC has officially confirmed that One Chicago will continue, ensuring a return for Firehouse 51 in Chicago Fire season 14. Regrettably, it seems highly improbable that the current status of Carver and Ritter will undergo any significant alteration. Given that neither actor has explicitly announced their departure, there’s a chance they might be written off the series as part of cost-cutting strategies that have also led to periodic cast changes throughout the year.

Regarding the possible return of Ritter or Carver on Chicago Fire after their departures, it’s intriguing but unlikely they will rejoin as series regulars. The series seldom invites back departed characters for more than guest appearances, such as when Casey attended his wedding with Brett and Boden investigated the fire involving Benny Severide’s son, Jack Damon. With no significant changes anticipated, it seems their involvement in the show will be limited to brief appearances, which is unfortunate.
