Victoria Justice revealed she received death threats after a viral meme with Ariana Grande.
A former cast member of “Victorious” discussed the backlash that followed a viral video during an episode of Mythical Kitchen’s “Last Meals”. According to her, the video was misunderstood. The clip also included her previous co-stars Ariana Grande, Elizabeth Gillies, and Daniella Monet.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it as: “For a while there, it felt like the gaming community was not on my side, like a never-ending wave of disapproval. It was a trending topic, and honestly, it could get pretty rough… The mob mentality online is a tangible force.
Back in 2010, during an interview for the Popstar video that re-emerged in 2017 and became widely popular, the cast members of Victorious were chatting about their individual characteristics. During this conversation, Jennette McCurdy (Gillies) shared an interesting fact about Ariana Grande: “She actually sings everything! You might not know this, but she began to forget how to speak in her own voice because she constantly sings. And that’s a good thing since she has such a beautiful singing voice.
After Monet mentioned that Gillies often sings, Justice added, “I believe everyone in our group sings,” causing some people online to suspect Justice of being subtlety critical towards Grande. However, the actress from A Perfect Pairing explained that she was simply stating an observation about their group’s interaction.
To begin with, what Justice stated is indeed accurate – we all sang, as confirmed. However, the media may have misconstrued the situation. It seems plausible that they were short on news during that time, because I sincerely believe that when they published this story, it must have been several years after the interview I gave at 16. By then, I was already well into my 20s.
Consequently, she expressed, “I received an overwhelming amount of hostility. Such hostility! I’d ask myself, ‘What have I done wrong? What have I done wrong? I’m simply here, trying to earn a living and exist.’ It was quite astonishing.
The former star of ‘Zoey 101’ shared that they received an overwhelming amount of negativity, even receiving threats that could be harmful. They added, ‘It was distressing for my mother to see all the nasty comments online. She was quite alarmed. I usually brush off such remarks, but this time it escalated and became a significant issue.’
Justice thinks the clip is funny and doesn’t mind being involved in the joke since she uses it frequently herself. In essence, it doesn’t matter to her.
Running on Nickelodeon from 2010-13, the show titled “Victorious” chronicled the journey of budding singer Tori Vega (Justice), as she maneuvered through life and attended a prestigious performing arts school known as Hollywood Arts.
