In their upcoming venture for the Mission: Impossible series, if Tom Cruise decides to take on the challenge, they aim to surpass their previous box office earnings.
At the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in Los Angeles, Courtney B. Vance conversed about how his film and Tom Cruise’s were premiering during the same week, and speculated on their financial rivalry. “Tom, how will you manage, buddy? I don’t believe you can outdo Stitch, Tom, but you’ll certainly give it your best effort,” said Vance, with his wife, Angela Bassett, set to reprise her role in the new movie as Erika Sloane from Mission: Impossible – Fallout. In a friendly parting remark, the actor added, “We adore you, you know that, and I’ll be there for MI8.
Vance admitted that even though he became part of the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch as Agent Cobra Bubbles, his familiarity with the original movie is limited. He expressed surprise that many people had watched it while he himself hadn’t, saying “Everyone can’t believe I haven’t seen it and I can’t believe everyone else has!”. Upon arriving at the studio, the studio head [Alan Bergman] told him, “It’s going to be big.” He hinted that they all aimed to do justice to the beloved original, saying “If you’re going to remake something popular like this, you have to get it right. I think we managed to do just that.
By chance, it was Ving Rhames who provided the voice for Bubbles in the 2002 animated movie. Interestingly, Rhames has been featured in every Mission: Impossible film since 1996, playing the role of IMF agent Luther Stickell. In addition to this, Rhames had a minor voice part in last year’s well-received film, and it so happens that its director, Chris Sanders, was the creator of Lilo & Stitch, and will lend his voice to Stitch again in the upcoming live-action adaptation.
Just like in the animated film “Lilo & Stitch”, the story revolves around an alien experiment named Stitch who escapes and finds himself adopted by a young Hawaiian girl named Lilo, thinking he’s her new pet dog. This movie is longer than its original version, which was well-received by critics and spawned a TV spinoff and sequels. Critics have also given the latest “Lilo & Stitch” positive reviews, and it’s projected to earn over $100 million during its opening weekend, surpassing expectations. On the other hand, “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” set a box office record with its opening, but “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is predicted to gross substantially more than that, potentially becoming one of the highest-grossing films in the franchise so far.
Courtney B. Vance Returns to Disney for Percy Jackson and the Olympians
Following the conclusion of “Lilo & Stitch”, Vance will step into a different Disney universe for “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” Season 2, taking over the role of Zeus from the late Lance Reddick. The upcoming season, inspired by “Sea of Monsters”, is set to premiere in December, while production on the next installment is scheduled to start around July.
