Actress Dakota Johnson, playing the role of Madame Web, is set to appear in the upcoming romantic comedy “Materialists.” Here, she finds herself entangled in a love triangle with Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. In a recent interview at Cannes, Johnson showered her co-stars with glowing compliments.
In conversation with Johnson, she shared her experiences working alongside Chris and Pedro, expressing how delightful they both were. She mentioned that they have a great sense of humor and are always able to make her laugh. She also added that she often manages to make Chris laugh, which she appreciates, and that she and Pedro had been friends prior to the project, making their time together on set an enjoyable experience.
Johnson shared that her time working on the film Materialists differed from other sets she’s worked on, as it turned out to be more enjoyable due to her co-stars. She described it as feeling less like a confinement, saying, “It’s almost as if you’re in movie jail and can’t do anything or see anyone, living on set.” However, she added that they were both exceptional actors in the movie.
The movie titled “Materialists” will be released in theaters across the U.S. by A24 Pictures in June, while Sony Pictures will handle international distribution. In this film, the main character finds herself entangled in a love triangle involving a wealthy businessman (Pascal) and her former lover (Evans). Johnson has likened the movie to classic romantic comedies he enjoyed as a child, describing it as having a strong resemblance to works by Jim Brooks and Nora Ephron. Notably, “Materialists” is the directorial debut of Celine Song, whose previous film, “Past Lives,” was critically acclaimed and even earned an award.
In addition to expressing admiration for Song’s work, Johnson emphasized her strong connection to the project and the movie set. “We were in sync, and it was truly captivating, incredibly so. I believe, due to her previous experience as a playwright, she seemed to be right there with us, almost like she was in the scenes alongside me, he stated. “If this was the take, she would have been here on the floor beside me, just off-camera. She’s an authentic filmmaker, and it’s a pleasure to witness such dedication.
Johnson Is Set To Star In An Upcoming Colleen Hoover Adaptation
Apart from providing insights about “Materialists”, Johnson has been playful regarding her role in “Verity”. During interviews, she’s been less forthcoming with information, revealing that she wasn’t familiar with the novel prior to receiving the script, which is based on a popular book by Colleen Hoover. After wrapping up filming, she mentioned, “Yes, we have completed shooting. I was unaware of what Verity entailed before getting the script.
Despite this, Johnson continued to compliment Hoover, saying, “She’s quite a hilarious individual, really cool indeed,” the actor added. She also expressed her views about her character, Lowen Ashleigh, who is among the main characters in Verity, alongside Verity Crawford (portrayed by someone) and Jeremy Crawford (played by Josh Hartnett). “I guess I’m the antagonist, if you will,” Johnson hinted. “It’s quite enjoyable.
Materialists will be released on June 13.
