In about a fortnight, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio will appear together in a movie, and a fresh snippet from the film has surfaced, depicting their characters encountering each other and reminiscing fondly about Mr. Miyagi.
In a previous post, Fandango (previously known as Twitter) shared an exclusive clip. It opens with Mr. Han (Chan) searching for Daniel LaRusso (Macchio). After a brief reunion, Daniel reveals he can’t depart for New York to join Mr. Han in a martial arts competition due to personal reasons. In a touching scene, Mr. Han reveals to Daniel that the young student he is training, , holds the same significance to him as Daniel did to Mr. Miyagi. The upcoming movie, The Karate Kid: Legends, is scheduled for release on May 30th.
Mr. Han tells Daniel as he leaves, “I’ll catch up with you in New York City.” Although Daniel explains he won’t be able to participate in the tournament there currently, it seems probable that he’ll visit the city at some point. The sixth film in the Karate Kid series, titled Karate Kid: Legends, will follow events after those depicted in the previous movie, with Macchio reprising his role.
In the movie “Karate Kid: Legends,” young Li Fong, along with his mother, relocates to New York City following a heartbreaking family event. Eager to continue his martial arts journey, he sets his sights on participating in a competition, even though he’s already a kung fu prodigy. The movie features Ben Wang as the principal character, while Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen also make appearances.
The recently released Karate Kid movie continues the storyline from where Cobra Kai left off, which is currently streaming on Netflix this year. This series serves as a direct follow-up to the initial four Karate Kid films and primarily revolves around the lives of Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka), 30 years after the original film’s conclusion. In the finale, both characters team up as senseis, training their students in Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do, thereby paving the way for Mr. Han to approach Daniel for assistance.
Ralph Macchio Remembers Mr. Miyagi’s Actor Ahead of Karate Kid: Legends
In the latest installment of “Karate Kid: Legends,” the series is introducing a new leading character, Li Fong, played by Ben Wang, under the guidance of Mr. Han, portrayed by Chan. This move allows Ralph Macchio’s character, Daniel, to step into a fresh role that mirrors his previous mentor, Mr. Miyagi. Notably, the actor who originally played Mr. Miyagi, Pat Morita, passed away in 2005. In this new series, Macchio will be taking on a role reminiscent of Mr. Miyagi’s.
Macchio expressed, “I believe he would have been eager and generous enough to buy popcorn for everyone. That’s my conviction.” He added, “I appreciate and honor those who contributed to this franchise, and I feel a sense of duty, though I might say it’s more like pride, to ensure their contributions are acknowledged or heard. I hope he would be proud of me for that aspect.
Karate Kid: Legends premieres in theaters on May 30.
