Fans of the Star Wars series noticed several well-known characters appearing throughout, but surprisingly, the main character from Rogue One, Jyn Erso, portrayed by Felicity Jones, was nowhere to be found in these new appearances.
In the series “Andor,” Tony Gilroy, the creator, has reintroduced several notable characters from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Apart from Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna), Mon Mothma (portrayed by Genevieve O’Reilly) and Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) make a return. However, Gilroy clarified that Jyn Erso was not initially intended to appear in the series. He explained, “No,” when asked about this possibility. Although Jyn didn’t end up making an appearance, Gilroy did hint at other character returns throughout Season 2 of “Andor.
I often found myself thinking, ‘Oh my word, I’ll have to handle the spy [Tivik]!’ Gilroy expressed. Was Galen Erso a character I needed to address? And were there others? Initially, I felt I might need Danny Mays as [Tivik]. However, upon further consideration, I decided it was best. It seemed unnecessary to me. Bringing Jyn back as a cameo would’ve been unbecoming and disrespectful. I preferred to maintain the integrity of Rogue One instead.” Gilroy said.
Some fans of Jyn might find themselves adjusting their perspectives on the TV series Andor, as it portrays Bix (played by Adria Arjona) in a way that may challenge previous assumptions about a potential romantic connection between the characters, according to the show’s creator, Tony Gilroy.
Tony Gilroy Incorporated An Iconic Rogue One Line Into Andor
I marveled at how Gilroy seamlessly wove the iconic into ‘Andor’, but it wasn’t until my son playfully teased me about it: “He was hanging out one day and joked, ‘Hey, who’s going to introduce ‘rebellions are built on hope’?’
Initially, the inclusion of that phrase was meant in jest, but it grew more profound with time. In ‘Andor’, Stefon Crepon initially uses this line about the Rebellion, which Cassian later picks up and eventually shares with Jyn. Diego Luna felt delighted as the line had come full circle. To a magazine, he said, “That line is so impactful.” I believe that watching ‘Rogue One’ after seeing ‘Andor’ season 2 will be incredibly powerful for audiences; everything will feel deeply meaningful.
Andor seasons 1 and 2 are now available to stream on Disney+.
